The 100: 5 spin-offs we’d like to see after season 7

The 100 may be coming to an end after season seven, but there is still a lot of story left to tell. Here are five spin-offs series we’d love to see in the future.

With the confirmation earlier this month that season seven will be the final season of The 100, fans are preparing for a bittersweet ending to the science-fiction phenomenon that has pushed the boundaries of storytelling in more ways than one.

Set to contain 16 episodes — bringing the show to a satisfying 100 episodes in total — there is only so much time left to tie up loose ends, and that time likely won’t be spent exploring storylines that have run their course now that Earth and most of Sanctum have been burned to the ground. But that doesn’t mean we’re not still interested!

One area that The 100 has always excelled in is worldbuilding, creating universes where seemingly unrelated stories are subtly and intricately woven together. The only downside to such fantastic table-setting for these worlds is that we only visit them for so long before moving on to the next one. I mean, Earthkru wasn’t even in Sanctum for two weeks before the society that stood there for centuries came crashing down in its entirety.

It may not be practical for the show to thoroughly explore all the worlds and cultures that it introduces, but it does certainly leave room for the possibility of a spin-off series or two down the road. And if we were to get a spin-off of The 100, these are five aspects of the world we’d like to explore.

Lexa and the grounders

Perhaps garnering the most fan support is a spin-off series about the grounder clans and Lexa’s journey to becoming commander. In fact, there’s an entire fan-run campaign rallying for a Lexa series with a petition that has over 21,500 signatures.

It’s no secret that the end of Lexa’s story left a sour taste in peoples’ mouths, and many fans believe that a dedicated series about her life and legacy is one way to help bring justice to her character. A Lexa/grounder spin-off would be incredibly interesting, and it would give us the chance to explore what the world was like before Skaikru arrived.

We know that Lexa was the first commander to unite the 12 clans, and fans have always been curious to see just how she did it. How cool would it be to see her training with Anya, or fighting in the Conclave with Luna?

Life on the Ark

We’ve gotten a few glimpses into what life was like on the Ark prior to sending down the delinquents, like in the sixth episode of season one, where we see some of Bellamy and Octavia’s childhood. But still, we never actually learn very much about life on the Ark.

From what we have seen, we know it was a corrupt society with crooked officials and deep-cutting class divisions that forced people like Aurora Blake to sell her body to survive and cost desperate parents like Alex Murphy their lives. A spin-off about life on the Ark would be a fascinating exploration into the politics of this society in space, and it would be a great way to learn more about the earlier lives of Abby, Kane, Jaha, and the other adult characters.

Becca, Cadogan, and apocalypse #1

If there is any backstory I’m dying to get, it’s this one — and as it turns out, we may just get it. While there hasn’t been any official confirmation, The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg teased a potential prequel back in April that might just answer some of our burning questions about the first apocalypse. It’s unclear whether the prequel would be more about life leading up to the apocalypse or life immediately after, but I’d be stoked to see either.

Back in season three, we got to see Becca’s arrival on Earth after the bombs went off, and we know she went on to become known as Becca Pramheda before being burned alive by Second Dawn leader Bill Cadogan. Becca and Cadogan’s rivalry is easily the most interesting plotline we haven’t had the chance to fully explore in my opinion, and there is so much possible spin-off material with their characters and stories.

What did the rest of the world think of Becca’s solution to overpopulation? Did she and Cadogan know each other pre-apocalypse? Why did Cadogan see Becca as a threat? What happened to him after he murdered Becca? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Diyoza’s war crimes

There’s no telling what Diyoza’s fate is after her daughter Hope came flying out of the Anomaly as a full-grown teenager in the season six finale, but I surely hope we haven’t seen the last of her.

As we learned during her introduction in season five — and were reminded again by Russell early in season six — Diyoza was the world’s most-wanted terrorist before the first apocalypse. Learning more about her past wouldn’t just reveal more about her character, but it would also reveal more about the fascist regime she was fighting against.

Diyoza’s canonical age (the hundreds of years in cryo not included) means she would have been a young teenager in 2019 and easily old enough to bear witness to America’s current political climate, making her story incredibly timely and relevant. A spin-off series about her dark descent from Navy SEAL to domestic terrorist would no doubt be an intense and thrilling ride.

The Lightbourne family, Sanctum, and the Primes

After the season six finale, I was left quite disappointed with how quickly this new society was introduced then torn apart. Sure, we got to learn more about the way of life in Sanctum after Josephine’s mind drive was put into Clarke, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what happened to this society in its 200+ year history.

It would be interesting to see what life was like after Russell resurrected his family and the Primes rose to power. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see more of Josie’s maniacal schemes?
