We cannot wait to assemble at Disney’s new Avengers Campus
By Megan DuBois
At this year’s D23 Expo, The Walt Disney Company revealed more details about the new Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure! Here’s what we know.
Even though the “Disney Parks and Resorts” panel at the D23 Expo isn’t until Sunday, we got a little sneak peek into what’s going to be talked about during the panel, including the name and some new details about the new Marvel-themed area inside Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. First off, the official name of the new land is going to the Avengers Campus, and we love that. The space is going to be divided into distinctly themed areas based on some of the most popular Avengers like Spider-Man, Iron Man and Ant-Man.
Part of the Avengers Campus will be a Spider-Man-themed attraction located at WEB (Worldwide Engineering Brigade) Headquarters. A ride description from Disney says:
"The Avengers are setting up new Headquarters and training facilities around the globe to inspire all potential recruits willing to step up and become something more. As part of this global initiative, Tony Stark has founded the Worldwide Engineering Brigade — or WEB for short— to develop advancements in super-powered technology, including new enhancements to Spider-Man’s suit as their debut project. By bringing together the world’s brightest young inventors, the WEB is creating new interfaces that will empower all of us to join the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest."
What else is coming to the new Avengers Campus? We already know there will be a new Avengers merchandise location and character meet and greets there. Since there will now be a dedicated Avengers space, we think you’ll be able to find Spider-Man, Thor, Loki, Captain America, Captain Marvel, and other heroes inside the Avengers Campus instead of in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure.
We would love to see some sort of Avengers-themed dining location, and while there have been rumors of an Ant-Man Microbrewery inside the Avengers Campus, Disney has not announced that as of this writing. While we’re thinking the Spider-Man attraction is going to be the E-ticket attraction in the land based on what we know so far, we would love to see another ride or experience in the land using some of the touchless screen tech that D23 Expo media members got to experience at the media preview of the expo. It all felt very much like Tony Stark working with J.A.R.V.I.S. to create new technology.
We are likely to hear more about what additional experiences are coming to the Avengers Campus at the “Disney Parks and Resorts” panel at D23 on Sunday, August 25.
Disney’s D23 Expo is happening now through August 25. Let us know in the comments what you’re looking forward to most from D23.
