The CW’s first trailer for Katy Keene is here, and it has us more excited than ever about the Riverdale spin-off series.

The CW released its first trailer for the Riverdale spin-off series, Katy Keene, and if we’re being honest, the new show looks so much more fun than its predecessor. Don’t get us wrong, we love Riverdale. But the darkness and drama that make Riverdale what it is seem to be absent from Katy Keene. Instead, Lucy Hale’s latest series appears to focus on pursuing your dreams and finding yourself — offering a far lighter and more relatable tale for viewers to follow.

Watch the trailer for Katy Keene here:

Katy Keene shows lead star Lucy Hale living in Manhattan with her roommates — one of whom is Riverdale‘s Josie — and pursuing her dream of building a career in the fashion industry.

But why exactly are we so excited for this series to air? Well, there are a few reasons actually…

There are so many adorable costumes.

Anyone who enjoys a show with fashionable costumes is bound to love Katy Keene. During the trailer alone, viewers get a peek at so many of the pieces we’ll get to see over the course of the first season — and with the plot so heavily focused on fashion, there are a lot of cute and unique outfits on display.

The focus is on young people chasing their dreams.

The series follows Katy as she figures out where she fits into the fashion industry — and as it turns out, Katy might not actually want the career she initially thought she did. Katy’s story will be a relatable one to young people attempting to find their place in the world, as will Josie’s and Jorge’s storylines. Katy Keene is all about deciding what you want and going after it, and we already love that about it.

It’s going to be musical.

If two of the major storylines of Katy Keene follow a character with a music career and a character attempting to break into Broadway, then we assume there will be plenty of original musical numbers throughout the series. We already know that Riverdale has had its share of musical performances, and it seems Katy Keene will give us the same kinds of catchy songs, just in a completely new setting.

It feels so wholesome.

Yes, Katy Keene is still a young adult drama series, so there’s bound to be some drama in it. But judging by the trailer, the storylines will also feel incredibly wholesome. We’ve got a supportive group of friends that looks out for one another, and even Katy’s boyfriend seems to be a keeper from the glimpse we see of him. We love shows that follow tight-knit groups with bigger problems than fighting with one another, and that seems to be what Katy Keene will offer.

Lucy Hale and Ashleigh Murray are gems.

We already know that Lucy Hale is a fantastic actress from her days on Pretty Little Liars, and Ashleigh Murray has more than proven her talent during her tenure on Riverdale. With the two of them at the helm of Katy Keene, the series is almost guaranteed to be a hit. We’d watch it just to see them in action, but the fact that they’ll both have compelling storylines seals the deal.
