Fantastic Beasts: If it wasn’t for Nicolas Cage, we wouldn’t have THE Grindelwald

The Fantastic Beasts franchise would look very different from what it does today if it wasn’t for Nicolas Cage; we would have a completely different Grindelwald.

When you look back at the decisions you have made in life, there are some that are so significant that it shaped your life to what it is today. We’ve all had those moments, some of them we mad by ourselves and others with the help of others. Johnny Depp is no exception to this, and it turns out that if it wasn’t for a certain Nicolas Cage, we may not have Grindelwald and the Fantastic Beasts franchise we know today.

During a recent interview, Nicolas Cage spoke about his life and how he helped Johnny Depp take that all important first leap into acting.

While clearing up a rumor about himself and Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage explained how, during one of their many Monopoly sessions of all things, he convinced Depp to try out for acting.

Depp had his eye on being a musician and told Cage how he wasn’t capable of acting. Cage persisted though, clearly confident in Depp’s abilities, and organised a meeting with his own agent. One thing led to another and Depp was off on his first audition and landing his first role in; A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The rest of Depp’s story really speaks for itself, with one amazing performance after another.

Of course, the main focus surrounding his career is as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. A role fans of the Wizarding World have fully embraced and accepted.

Which makes you think, if Nicolas Cage had not convinced Depp to pursue acting, who would be our Grindelwald? Would we have accepted the character the way we do Depp? I’m not so sure.

So, thank you Mr. Cage, you did a good thing.
