There are a lot of moments in Harry Potter that made us smile, laugh, cry and more. There are also moments, for one reason or another, that made us groan in frustration as well.

Throughout the entire Harry Potter franchise, there are various moments that make us emotional. Whether you’re a book fan or a movie fan, both versions are able to do this.

From feeling a sense of loss upon the death of Albus Dumbledore. To the physical hatred we feel towards Professor Umbridge. There are tons of moments that elicit a reaction.

More from Harry Potter

Of course, while there are plenty of these moments that make us feel happy, sad, etc, there are also moments, mostly because of Harry Potter himself, that make us grown in frustration as well.

Because some of the decisions he makes are just outright stupid. Now in the beginning, when he was just a young wizard, he could be forgiven for some of the decisions he made, but what you will find, is as he got older, the more stupid the decisions became.

So, prepare yourself Potterheads. You are about to shake your head in dismay at least 10 times today as we look at the 10 times Harry Potter made us groan in frustration.

10. Ignoring Cedric’s golden egg tip

During Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry was a bit of tool on more than one occasion; as you will see later. The first moment we will look at though is when The Boy Who Lived flat out ignored Cedric Diggory because he was dating the girl he fancied.

Cedric, in an effort to make amends, pretty much gave Harry everything he needed to solve the golden egg puzzle, but because Harry’s ego couldn’t accept the help, we end up watching him go about trying to solve the puzzle only for him to eventually realize that he needs to get over his issues with Cedric and do what he should have done a hundred or so pages, or 30 minutes, ago.

9. Failing to grab a single Hogwarts acceptance letter

Watching Uncle Vernon and the rest of the Dursleys frantically try to stop letters from Hogwarts arriving for Harry in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was hilarious. However, they needn’t have bothered because Harry couldn’t catch one single letter.

What makes this super frustrating and groan worthy though is the fact he becomes this legendary Seeker! So, he can catch a tiny walnut sized golden ball that moves so fast that it’s difficult to see with the human eye, but a slowly descending, piece of flapping paper is a hard no.

8. Mispronouncing Diagon Alley

Now, in defense of Harry Potter, this is probably more the movie adapting the books fault than anything else, but it is still worth mentioning.

During Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets the Weasleys introduce Harry to Floo Powder. A simple method of transportation that requires you to speak the name of the place you want to go in a fireplace.

Sounds super simple, and yet Harry still messed it up royally. He comes out with some strange word for the magical street; a street he has visited before by the way so knows all too well how to pronounce it and ends up in Knocktorn alley.

Now, in the book they give him a reason for saying it wrong. As drops the Floo Powder soot goes into his throat and therefore that makes him cough. So, it’s understandable how he gets it wrong in the books. In the movie though, it’s plain groan worthy stupidity.

7. Taking the Merpeople song seriously

Back to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire now and another moment where the boy wizard was clearly not thinking straight. This one involving the Merpeople and the song Harry heard them sing in the golden egg and while he competed in the second task of the Triwizard Tournament.

The song described how the object the champion held most dear would be lost forever if they did not save it in time. It turned out the object was Ron, for Harry, Hermione for Krum, Cho for Cedric, and Fluer’s little sister for Fleur.

Harry, took the song literally, truly believing Dumbledore and the rest of the staff would allow these students to die if they were not saved in time………

6. The time he forgot his invisibility cloak

OK movie only fans, I’m sorry but you are not going to have a clue what I am talking about in this next moment because it was completely overlooked in from the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone book.

So, in the book, Harry and Ron help Hagrid smuggle Norbert out of the castle. They do this by smuggling Nobert under the invisibility cloak, where they hid too, all the way to the astronomy tower where Charlie Weasley was waiting with some friends to take him to Romania to live with other dragons.

The pair successfully managed this, and everything was looking smashing. That was until they headed back to the dormitory where they got caught in the act. But wait, how did they get caught if they had the invisibility cloak? Well, the saviour of the Wizarding World left it behind at the top of the tower.

In the true words of Hermione; “What an idiot!”

5. Rushing into the Ministry of Magic to save Sirius

When Harry decided he needed to save Sirius, it was rather an understandable knee jerk reaction. He was being tortured by Voldemort and his Death Eaters; who wouldn’t want to rush of and save him?

I don’t think any of us would have not had the same reaction, but I am fairly certain 99% of us wouldn’t have gone off and done it. Instead, we would have contacted the Order and put them on alert. At the very least we would have used the two-way mirror to double check it was in fact Sirius being tortured and not a trick of some kind.

In all fairness though, if Harry and the gang had not gone and done this we would never have learned about the project, along with other major plot points that where necessary for the future. So I suppose, Harry had to be a bit idiotic sometimes in order for the story to progress.

4. The time he forgot Ginny was possessed by Voldemort

Now this, this was a proper face palm moment. Harry, having a moan about how know understands what it is like to be possessed by Lord Voldemort to the one and only person who truly knows what it was like.

I mean, come on mate. It wasn’t like it happened a few decades ago or anything. It happened in your second year of Hogwarts and it is definitely classed as a moment you will never forget. Unless killing a giant snake the size of a truck in a hidden chamber located miles beneath your school is something you do every other day.

3. Keeping Riddle’s diary and not handing it over

While we are on the subject of the Basilisk, before Harry went head to head with the giant snake he came in possession of a diary. A diary that would have conversations with him. A diary that showed him the reason why Hagrid was sacked in the first place.

And what does Harry do with said diary? He pretty much believes everything the diary said, decides to keep it, ultimately being the cause of Hagrid’s imprisonment to Azkaban and the continual panic of the Chamber of Secrets.

It was really frustrating watching him keep the damn thing! He really should have handed the thing over to Dumbledore, or at the very least one of the Hogwarts Professors.

2. Naming his kid after Severus

OK. So, I know this particular moment splits the entire Harry Potter fandom. Some fans think it was a really fitting thing to do. Others think the complete opposite.

Personally, the first time I read the story and learned how Harry named his kid after Severus I thought it was great. As time has gone on however, my opinion has changed. This was really not a good thing to do.

I actually don’t mind the fact that Harry forgave Snape, that is totally fine with me, but there are so many other worthy people Harry could have named his kid after. What makes me really groan at this decision though, is I’m pretty sure Ginny got absolutely no say in what the kids where being called.

1. Continually using Expelliarmus and nothing else

Last up is Harry’s ridiculous use fo the same spell, Expelliarmus. Harry uses it for everything, and it is both funny and hot topic for banging your head on the table in frustration.

It is honestly not a joke when saying that Harry uses the spell for everything. Someone tries to kill him, Expelliarmus!, someone tries to hex him, Expelliarmus!, stun him, Expelliarmus!, torture him, Expelliarmus!, any spell cast towards him is returned with a good olde Expelliarmus!

In defense of him though, it is slightly genius. Expelliarmus disarms the witch or wizard of their wand. It’s kinda hard to cast a spell on your opponent if they have disarmed you. It is 100% frustrating though having to hear, or read, Expelliarmus over and over again though.
