According to a new batch of rumors, it looks like Marvel may finally have landed on a villain to face off against T’Challa in Black Panther 2: Namor.

Marvel dropped tons of new information about its upcoming plans at San Diego Comic-Con, but one movie that was notably missing from its Phase 4 slate is Black Panther 2. The existence of the movie itself has never been in question — after all, it’s the highest-grossing Marvel solo film in the franchise’s history, not to mention a smash hit with both audiences and critics.

But unfortunately, Marvel has been suspiciously quiet when it comes to the film’s sequel. Other than the fact that it’s happening, we know little to nothing about Black Panther 2. That is, of course, until now.

If new rumors are to be believed, Marvel has landed on Namor to be the villain of Black Panther 2. We imagine it was pretty tough for Marvel to decide on a villain to follow Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, but if there’s anybody they could have chosen, Namor is a pretty promising pick.

For those who aren’t familiar with the name, Namor is most briefly described as an an anti-hero, MCU version of Aquaman. The son of a human seaman and the princess of Atlantis, Namor is a mutant with a wide range of abilities, including the power to breathe under water, super strength, speed, endurance, agility, and flight.

It’s not just his abilities that make him impressive, though. Namor is widely regarded as the first comic book anti-hero ever, and he has a long, rich  history in Marvel Comics. He’s appeared as a villain to the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Defenders, and many more. For years fans have wondered when the iconic character would make his way to the big screen, and if rumors are to be believed, we’ll finally get to see him with the release of Black Panther 2.

There has yet to be any word when it comes to casting, but we’re betting that Marvel will bring its A-game when picking who to put up gainst Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in the MCU, especially given that Namor and Black Panther have a long and adversarial history in the Marvel universe.
