If Skaikru’s situation seemed bleak during last week’s episode of The 100, the latest episode has set the group up to make some difficult choices in the sixth season finale.

During last week’s episode of The 100Clarke made the difficult decision to do better when it comes to dealing with the Primes. Unfortunately, she may already be regretting that choice — being “the good guys” has definitely come at a high price, one that was paid in full during “Adjustment Protocol.”

With Clarke parading around Sanctum as Josephine, she was bound to receive some emotional backlash from the people she loves. Madi’s response was mostly Sheidheda’s, but Abby’s reaction to seeing her daughter as a host is exactly what you’d expect from a grieving mother. She threatens to kill Russell, and apparently, he takes the threat to heart.

And even though Clarke eventually reveals herself to the others, the damage is already done at that point. Once she takes off to lower the radiation field blocking Bellamy and the Children of Gabriel from getting into Sanctum, Russell moves against her people — beginning with her mother.

Discovering that Abby has injected herself with Nightblood in order to prevent him from taking any more of Madi’s bone marrow, Russell decides to turn Abby into his wife’s host. He does it in front of Raven and Jackson — as if the moment isn’t emotional enough as is — and it looks like he succeeds in erasing her memories, as we get a brief montage of her time spent with Kane and Clarke.

Of course, while Russell is playing dirty, Skaikru is still attempting to spare as many lives as possible. When Bellamy and Octavia finally do get into the compound, Bellamy reveals the truth to the followers of the Primes: that the Lightbournes are lying to them about hosts becoming divine.

This plan backfires, though. Sensing an uprising, Russell releases toxins into the air, causing his own people to become confused and violent. And while Bellamy and the others are safely hiding, it’s only a matter of time before they’re forced to make the same choice they’ve always had to make: kill or be killed.

Whatever they decide won’t affect Russell, however, as the biggest twist of all comes at the end of “Adjustment Protocol”: If Russell can no longer reign over Sanctum, he’ll move his followers to space instead. It looks like next week’s struggle will take place on the Eligius ship, something that likely won’t end well for the Primes.

And Clarke is going with them, still playing the role of Josephine. It’s a testament to Clarke’s willpower and Eliza Taylor’s acting that Clarke is able to hold it together when she discovers what Russell’s done to Abby. Clarke might be hellbent on sparing the innocent, but we hope she gives Sanctum’s leader his comeuppance before the sixth season ends next week.
