During the most recent episode of The 100, the Blake siblings had a much-needed discussion about their relationship with one another. But does the way they left things bode ill for them?

This week’s episode of The 100 had an overarching theme of doing better, and we know that Octavia Blake has been trying to redeem herself for some time now. During the show’s fifth season, Octavia destroyed most of the relationships she had with the other characters, including the bond she had with her older brother.

And despite never fully losing her humanity, Octavia has struggled to rid herself of the leader she became while underground. Blodreina’s ways of handling things were far harsher than necessary — especially after Wonkru exited the bunker — and they resulted in a serious fracture between Octavia and Bellamy.

During “Ashes to Ashes,” Bellamy and Octavia finally have a much-needed conversation about the baggage they’ve been carrying for the past season or two, and emotions were heavy. Octavia admits to losing her moral compass without Bellamy to guide her, and as much as he wants to ignore her pleas for forgiveness, it’s obvious that Bellamy can’t. He’ll always love his little sister, even if he hates much of what she’s done.

But while this discussion between the Blake siblings may be long overdue, we have to wonder: Does it bode ill for them? At the end of the scene, when Octavia begs Bellamy to say that she’s still his sister, he tells her, “You’re my sister, but you’re not my responsibility anymore.”

It’s a shocking and emotional play on Bellamy’s iconic phrase from the previous seasons, but with the approaching conflict with the Primes, it doesn’t seem like a promising way to leave things. We know the anomaly spit Octavia out for a reason, and we know she’s looking for a way to make up for what she’s done — but what if that requires her to sacrifice herself for the others?

Of course, it’s possible Bellamy’s statement is just the beginning of a far healthier, less codependent relationship between the Blakes. But when it comes to The 100, season finales can get messy — and this moment is just one way that the series sets up the final episodes of season six to devastate the viewers and the characters.
