Have you heard of Mustique? A favorite getaway of Prince William and Duchess Catherine, should this Island be your next vacation destination?

Looking for a royally inspired vacation destination? Currently, Mustique seems to be filling many people’s newsfeeds. But while Prince George celebrated his sixth birthday on the beautiful island, could a commoner enjoy this luxurious experience?

From celebrity photos to stunning Instagram posts, vacation inspiration can come from many sources. While few regular people have the bankroll of the super famous, everyone can aspire to the ultimate vacation experience.

While many people are familiar with Caribbean destinations like St. Lucia or Barbados, Mustique isn’t a common choice on your favorite travel app. Of course, people can visit the gorgeous island, but there are a few reasons why it isn’t found on that discount travel site.

Originally, the island was a desolate jungle. When Princess Margaret accepted a 10-acre parcel as wedding present, the accommodations were far from the royal standard. After the Mustique Company took over, the private island became one of the premier luxury destinations of the world.

Today, the island is considered an exclusive destination for celebrities, the elite, and especially royalty. Over the years, William and Kate have vacationed here, and, this year, the island is where they celebrated Prince George’s sixth birthday.

But, the royals aren’t the only important guests with ties to the private island. Mick Jagger has been tied to the island, as has Shania Twain and Tommy Hilfiger. In truth, this island could be one of the few places that isn’t filling your Instagram feed — unless you follow a lot of famous people.

In many ways, this island is coveted by celebrities like the royal family because it is a total refuge. Without prying eyes, these often-photographed, always-in-the-public-eye, vacationers can find a moment away from all the pressure. The seclusion might provide as big a respite as the tropical surroundings.

Now all this exclusivity does come with a substantial price tag. The island boasts two small private hotels and other private residences. The easiest place to stay on the island is the Cotton House. Considered one of the 50 favorite hotels in the world by Condé Nast, Cotton House is a luxury hotel that offers all types of amenities. From a spa to a weekly cocktail party, this resort will make any guest forget about the pressures of the real world.

Of course, the experience comes with a substantial price tag. This vacation is not the economical, all-inclusive deal that most people choose for spring break. Still, if you have the means, this island destination could be the ultimate escape.

People are always looking for the new, bigger, “it” destinations. In many ways, if the funds are available, travelers want to make that perfect vacation memory. That sense of wanderlust drives them to find that special location that others haven’t exploited.

Today’s travel trends have expanded beyond just the exotic. African safaris have become family vacations. Venice continues to decay due to over-tourism. Mt. Everest is no longer a climber’s ultimate accomplishment; instead, it is just another photo op.

At present, Mustique offers something that other destinations can only dream of: exclusivity and seclusion. Here, the cameras don’t continuously shutter. Instead, the warm island breezes carry away the pressure of daily social media sharing. For at least a moment, the moment itself is enjoyed, regardless of the photographic evidence.

While William, Kate and the family make memories on this exclusive island, you could take direction from their vacation choice. Instead choosing that overly crowded, super-hyped location, consider a spot where you can connect to your family, to nature, or to yourself. Isn’t that scenario the best vacation memory anyone could want?

Even if the average person wouldn’t be able to vacation at this luxurious island, the spirit of this vacation can inspire anyone’s getaway. In that way, anyone can have a royally inspired vacation destination.
