Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD heads into its last four episodes with the immediate threat defeated. But that doesn’t mean they’re out of the woods just yet.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is rapidly approaching its sixth season finale, which is crazy, since it feels like we just started the season a few weeks ago.

But it’s all good! Because we already have a seventh season guaranteed. And after that… if more is needed, who says it won’t make the migration over to Disney+?

We’re getting way ahead of ourselves here. Last week, our two separate SHIELD teams finally reunited back on Earth after stopping the initial threat of the Shrikes, Izel, and Sarge. So, what else can go wrong?

Here is the official synopsis for this week’s episode, courtesy of ABC:

"The party’s over, and now the team must trust each other in order to face impending doom and an enemy that’s closer than they think."

Once again, Agents of SHIELD goes for the cryptic synopsis.

Last week’s episode destroyed the immediate threats — which means absolutely nothing on this show.

You have to assume the “enemy that’s closer than they think” is going to be Davis. Last we saw him, he was passed out on a couch, and Piper was taking ridiculous selfies with him. But he honestly looked more dead than sleeping.

Most likely he’s somehow now Izel. And it’s kind of a disappointment if that ends up being the case. Both Davis and Piper were fun little side additions to the show, characters you didn’t need to be a main part of the battle, but that were included enough to feel like they’re still part of the team.

If Davis ends up being taken over by Izel or Sarge or a Shrike or something inherently not good, that probably means the demise of his character. There’s not a lot of going back to normal in Agents of SHIELD (see: Ward, Bobbi and Hunter, Lash, Hive… Ward again…).

We’ll have to see where the show takes us. Will May feel better after point-blank “killing” Sarge? Will Sarge be back? No one stays dead in a comic book universe. Except for maybe Uncle Ben.
