Fear the Walking Dead actress Sydney Lemmon nabs Saturn Award nomination
By Sonya Iryna
Sydney Lemmon only appeared in one episode of Fear the Walking Dead, but her powerful performance landed her a nomination for a Saturn Award.
Fear the Walking Dead provided the first real look at a mysterious community that also appeared in The Walking Dead. And even though it was a brief glimpse, it was enough to make a big impression on the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.
In the fifth-season episode “The End of Everything,” fans meet Isabelle, a soldier with the mysterious community that had taken Althea hostage. It was the first appearance on Fear the Walking Dead for actress Sydney Lemmon, but her performance was striking enough that she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Guest Starring Performance in a TV Show for it.
Isabelle gave few clues about the mysterious community she’s part of, but she made it clear that the group was extremely protective of their mission, well supplied, and militaristic in nature. Isabelle was torn between following the strict protocols of the community and the connection she made with Althea. In the end she chose to break protocol and let Althea live — although Isabelle warned her not to go looking for more information about the community or interfere with their mission.
Lemmon’s emotional performance made her an instant hit with fans who wanted to know more about her, as well as viewers who wished to learn more about this mystery community, which also played a big role in The Walking Dead, saving Rick Grimes after he was injured and presumed dead when the bridge blew up.
Also nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Guest Starring Performance in a TV Show is Tonya Pinkins, who portrayed “The Filthy Woman” in Fear the Walking Dead season four. The Filthy Woman had a several-episode arc where she was seen killing survivors because no one had stopped to help her and her husband after the outbreak.
Her hustband needed the help, and he ultimately died. The grief of that loss made her lose her grip on reality. Tonya Pinkins’ Filthy Woman was the primary villain for the last few episodes of season four of Fear the Walking Dead.
Other nominees in the Best Guest Starring Performance in a TV Show category are Rainer Bock for Better Call Saul, Jon Cryer for Supergirl, Jeffrey Dean Morgan for The Walking Dead, and Ed Speelers for Outlander. Fear the Walking Dead was also nominated for Best Horror TV Show, along with The Walking Dead.
