Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch is set to play the new 007 in Bond 25. The actress will be the first black woman to play the role in the franchise’s history.

There is a new 007 in town, and she’s a black woman! Lashana Lynch will be taking the number from the infamous James Bond in the upcoming Bond 25 film. You might remember her as Maria Rambeau from Captain Marvel or as Rosaline Capulet from the sadly cancelled series Still Star-Crossed. (I know wasn’t the only fan of this show).

This doesn’t mean Daniel Craig is out as Bond in the new film. Lynch’s character will simply be the new agent with the 007 code name. But after years of clambering for a person of color as the most well-known secret agent, this does feel like a victory.

Not only do we get to see a woman as a secret agent, we get to see a black woman doing all the things that have been reserved for white male actors since the beginning of the franchise. This is definitely a step in the right direction.

According to the Daily Mail, an insider told them, “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful, and a woman. It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond, but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

The source also stated that, while Bond is attracted to this new agent, she wants nothing to do with him. And considering he’s the man who can supposedly seduce anyone, he’s rather confused by this. It’s sure to be a perfect moment.

Hopefully, this means Lynch will be taking over for Daniel Craig as the franchise goes on, but as of yet, there is no news confirming that. But we can hope, right?
