Harry Potter Patronus on a Postcard campaign is truly magical
By Callum Gunn
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Patronus on a Postcard is a charity campaign aimed at bringing the magic of reading to life.
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, we were introduced to Expecto Patronum and the Patronus for the very first time. An advanced spell which conjures corporeal or non-corporeal energy, the spell is used to fend off the Dementors.
A Patronus, in its corporeal form, is unique to the witch or wizard who cast the spell and is often a reflection of the caster’s past in some way. For example, Harry Potter’s Patronus is the form of a Stag, which was the animal his father, James Potter, would transform into as an Animagus. Severus Snape’s Patronus was a Doe, which was the same Patronus Lily Potter cast before her death.

Yet, while the Patronus is unique to the caster, it is also unique to us, the reader. While the Harry Potter movies certainly gave us an idea of what a Patronus should look like, beforehand, we most likely had our own views on what the positive energy force would look like.
And in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Bloomsbury asked 26 children illustrators to create what they imagined a Patronus would be. The results, truly magical. Check out all of the illustrations via Pottermore here.
But the magic doesn’t just stop there with the illustrations. For the illustrations are being auctioned off now in aid of the charity, BookTrust; which is a program aiming t help and develop children who love to read in the UK.
