Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD review: Sarge and a terrible game plan

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD brings Sarge and his crew into the SHIELD action. Will they fill in the team on what’s about to happen on Earth?

How much of this Agents of SHIELD episode splits itself up between Earth and deep space? What kind of balancing act are we in for? Let’s find out!

Indeed, we are back on Kitson! The casino seems to have recovered from Quake, and of course Enoch and FitzSimmons are stranded—and still wanted on the planet! They get called into Mr. Kitson’s office almost immediately.

Welcome Anthony Michael Hall as Mr. Kitson! It’s off with FitzSimmons’ heads in his world. Literally—he puts them into guillotines. Whoever can’t hold their blade up loses their head. Thankfully our pink-haired mystery woman wants our Terrans. Her name is Izel. She’s out to find an artifact stolen from her a la Indiana Jones.

As it turns out, her stolen artifact is on Earth.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “Toldja” – After finding themselves in yet another gambling dilemma, a mysterious stranger offers Enoch and FitzSimmons a ride home where, it turns out, two shrikes aren’t better than one, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” FRIDAY, JUNE 28 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. MING-NA WEN

On Earth, Sarge/Fauxson and Snowflake are back at SHIELD HQ. The familiar—and dead—face doesn’t go over well. Mack and Sarge go head to head, but his talk of Earth being destroyed rings hollow with how much Agents of SHIELD has put the Earth in danger. And… you know, the rest of the MCU.

I enjoyed Mack calling Sarge into his office and having the Coulson hologram up and ready to go. It only rattles him a little and makes him a lot angrier. Deke manages to hack Sarge’s tracker and our SHIELD compatriots take off to find two tracked dots that are shrikes.

Problem is that once the shrikes get close, they feed off each other. They bring Sarge into the room and he tells them that the shrikes will kill everyone on the aircraft. Mack bends to Sarge’s wishes and he gives them a potential solution: Freeze the thing.

It works. The problem is that there’s not just those two left. And now it looks like Sarge is running the show.

Post-Credits Stinger

On Kitson, FitzSimmons gets a ship—the same ship that was stolen from Fitz and Enoch to start this season. Enoch heads in his own direction separate from FitzSimmons, but at least gives them an intergalactic space phone to call him on.

I doubt they’ll use that later this season.

Badass Moment of the Week

I guess Jaco breathing fire?

Best One-Liner

“Toldja,” Sarge utters the name of the episode to close things out. Tied with Enoch’s “goodbyes suck.”

Deke is back to his awkward self with Daisy. I do appreciate that he doesn’t know who Michael Jordan is. His talk of multiverses sounds a lot like Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Also…Jaco breathes fire like a dragon if he doesn’t get his breathing treatments. So there’s that.

Who should replace Iron Man in the MCU? Tom Holland says Ironheart. light. Related Story

Agents of SHIELD is still new next week, even though it’s the Friday after a holiday and I’m sure most people are on vacation. Still, the shrikes are starting to appear all over Earth. And our mystery woman Izel is after the monoliths.
