Little Mix brings Soul II Soul and the “Bounce Back” in their new music video

Yup, you read that correctly: Little Mix brought Soul II Soul and “Bounce Back” in their titular new song and music video.

Since Little Mix tweeted out the teaser for their “Bounce Back” music video earlier today, we’ve all turned out notifications on and have been refreshing the YouTube page ever since. Sure, that defeats the point of the notifications option, but we weren’t about to let anything hold us back from this new music video.

From the lighting, the fashion choices, harmony, and lyrics, Little Mix didn’t disappoint, but they didn’t just bring the “Bounce Back.” They brought Soul II Soul back, too.

Okay, Little Mix didn’t actually bring the Soul II Soul back (though we wish). However, the musical group did bring the heart and lyrics of the Soul II Soul back along with a lot of bounce… and a plethora of late-1980s and early-90s nostalgia.

Seriously, from the vibrant lighting, imagery, fashion choices, and the lyrics in the chorus, “Bounce Back” reminds us how much we love Soul II Soul. Sampling “Back To Life,” Little Mix brought our melodic fandom back to life, and we weren’t steady, nor were we ready.

Some leopard print, full-body denim outfits, and half a dozen colorful ensembles later, we know we’re going to be listening to this new song on repeat. (As if we haven’t already been playing it on a loop since it debuted early today.)

The whole music video is memorable, but let’s highlight just a few iconic moments in it:

  • The waterfall texture projected on the house in the last 20-or-so seconds of the video. Seriously, we’re already figuring out how to set up this same visual so we can (badly) recreate this with all our friends.
  • Jade Thirlwall’s solo. It’s a whole moment and a half.
  • We cannot emphasize this enough: Every. Single. Outfit. Change.
  • The adorable and hilarious outtakes from the video. Sorry, Jade.
  • How the title of the song itself honors the song it samples. Seriously. “Bounce Back” and “Back To Life,” aren’t just conveniently similar.

Fun fact, today is also Jesy Nelson’s birthday. But instead of us giving her a present, she and the rest of the group got us a present. Needless to say, our ears and soul are thankful. Now, we just have to finish formally adding “Bounce Back” to all of our summer playlists.
