Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD review: Deke and the Framework

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD brings the focus back down to Earth. Sarge and his crew hunt down Deke, but can SHIELD step in and stop them before it’s too late?

Is everyone else excited for the return of Deke on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD? Find out how he’s been doing in this wonderful non-Snapped world of ours?

As it turns out, Deke is doing fantastic. He has a girlfriend and is working with a tech company on a cooler, less dangerous version of the Framework. It’s a gaming version! “Deke Shaw is not just about virtual reality!” He preaches.

It fits him so well. He can take all of his hopes and dreams from the prior future and put them to a better use for today’s society.

Sarge busts in on Deke and rolls with Deke’s idea that he had a SHIELD mindwipe and remembers nothing. Thankfully Deke doesn’t buy it for too long and stabs him in the fake hand (that’s very real since it’s not Coulson) and runs.

It should come as no surprise—but still surprised me—that SHIELD has an agent working with Deke who’s able to get him out of there. Mack and May show up. “Congratulations, you didn’t get yourself killed,” May tells Deke before she heads out to take down Sarge. Agents of SHIELD never shorts May on a good, sarcastic one-liner.

Of course, Sarge pulls a gun on May. And of course he’s not going to kill her—he’s going to take her hostage!

On the SHIELD side of things, it’s honestly a super gross storyline. From the autopsy of the first victim to the bird thing flying into Keller, it’s a little tough to watch. And once the bird takes hold, it gets even grosser as he starts to turn into a bit of Phyrexian-looking thing and Yo-Yo is forced to stab him.

Hasn’t she had enough trouble in her life?

It’s all of Sequoia’s instagram stories from the day. It’s all sorts of ridiculous.

Badass Moment of the Week

It’s usually a May fight, and this one’s no different—it’s may versus Snowflake. That clothesline finisher was really something.

Best One-Liner

”This is what you get for making business connections at Burning Man,” Deke mutters.

I like the callback to Deke’s aversion to things on his arm. The trackers from the old future gave him a lasting aversion.

Can I just say that the autopsy of the first victim was very gross? Did anyone else think that Yo-Yo could have easily stopped that weird bird thing that flew out of it with her super fast running powers almost right away?!

Also, in case you didn’t know already, Sequoia is played by Maurissa Tancharoen, showrunner and executive producer for Agents of SHIELD! That’s a fun little Easter egg.

Agents of SHIELD is taking next week off. But it looks like May will be learning just what Sarge is up to.
