The 100: “The Gospel Of Josephine” sparks tensions between Skaikru and the Primes

This week’s episode of The 100 officially sparked tensions between Skaikru and the Primes. And now that they know what the Primes are doing, it’s only a matter of time before conflict comes to Sanctum.

Last week’s episode of The 100 ended on a note that fans knew would lead to conflict between Skaikru and the Primes. After all, you don’t just steal Clarke’s mind and memory and get away with it, especially when you’re harboring her mother, daughter, and friends under your roof.

Still, if fans thought Josephine would blend in for a while before revealing she stole Clarke’s body, they were in for a rude awakening during last night’s episode. As it turns out, Josephine Lightbourne isn’t exactly subtle. She spends the majority of “The Gospel of Josephine” acting totally out of character for Clarke — although her actions and words speak wonders about the talent behind Eliza Taylor’s brilliant acting.

Of course, it doesn’t help that Jordan and the others are already suspicious of the Primes after Delilah’s Naming Day ceremony. Once Jordan begins snooping around Sanctum, there’s no turning back for Skaikru. And Jordan, Bellamy, Murphy, and Gaia discover the Lightbournes’ laboratory, along with videos showing exactly what they want with Nightbloods.

Unfortunately, Josephine’s present for most of the snooping — and she reports back to her parents, suggesting that they move against Skaikru before the newcomers can escape or retaliate. For once, Clarke and her friends might not shoot first, but it looks like they’ll still be facing a war all the same.

And after the group’s discovery in Sanctum’s lab, Bellamy finally puts two and two together and tricks Josephine into revealing herself. Once she doesn’t understand Trigedasleng, he knows for certain that she can’t be Clarke. His plan would have worked brilliantly if she wasn’t still a step ahead of him — the last we see of Bellamy, he’s being temporarily paralyzed by Josephine. His blood may be no use to the Primes, but they aren’t likely to let him go free with the amount of knowledge he now has.

And speaking of the Blakes, viewers also see more of Octavia’s mission with Diyoza during this week’s episode. The two spend most of the episode stuck in a substance that resembles quicksand, but they bring out interesting sides of one another. Diyoza seems interested in helping Octavia overcome the terrible things she’s done, things fans know the former Eligius leader can relate to. Their joint journey to redemption is looking promising thus far, even if it was spent mostly in the mud this week.

“The Gospel Of Josephine” also ends on a suspenseful note, with Josephine revealing herself to Murphy. He seems disturbed by her insistence that Clarke is dead initially, but her offer of mortality leaves fans questioning whether Murphy will take her bait — or simply fool her into trusting him. We’re crossing our fingers for the latter.

No matter what choice Murphy makes, though, one thing is for sure: Conflict is brewing between the Primes and Skaikru. And the stakes are getting higher for our heroes with every episode this season.

The 100 airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
