The Dark Crystal prequel series gets August release date on Netflix

Netflix’s upcoming The Dark Crystal prequel series now has a release date. Get ready for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance coming to Netflix in August 2019.

The Dark Crystal was all the rage in the 1980s. You know you were one of those sitting around your little box watching with your siblings over and over until the video was destroyed. Wait, only me? Okay then!

Well, there’s some exciting news for those who, like me, did love the original Jim Henson movie. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is coming to Netflix. This series is a prequel to the movie and it has an all-star cast, including two Harry Potter alum. Helena Bonham Carter and Jason Isaacs both voice characters on the series, but this time they’re on opposite sides of the brewing war.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be on Netflix on Aug. 30, 2019.

Bonham Carter will voice one of the Gelfling, along with Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel, among many other names you will most definitely recognize. Egerton, Taylor-Joy, and Emmanuel will be the lead three Gelfling, who find out that something sinister is going on with the Skeksis’ power.

Meanwhile, Isaacs will be one of the Skeksis/Mystics (it’s not clear from the press release which one he is). He joins Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, and Simon Pegg.

In The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the world of Thra is dying. While the Crystal of Truth sits at the heart of Thra, it’s been damaged and corrupted by the evil Skeksis and now sickness is spreading throughout the planet. When the three Gelfling find out the truth, they head on an adventure that brings a rebellion and epic battle for survival.

A trailer isn’t out yet, but we’ll bring it to you as soon as we get one. Just get ready for this 10-episode hour-long drama coming to the streaming service globally.
