Captain Marvel: Deleted scene shows Carol mentoring young Starforce students

Just when you thought Carol Danvers couldn’t get any better, a Captain Marvel deleted scene shows her being a super mentor to Starforce students.

The home release for Captain Marvel is almost on its way, and right on time for summer. With that will come never before seen footage, and one of those scenes is already out.

The clip, released by io9, is called “Starforce Recruits” and almost serves the same purpose as the Kree training scene that made it into the movie.

The scene begins with Yon-Rogg in class before a young group of students. Judging by the title on this scene, we can tell that the kids are in fact, Star Force recruits. Yon-Rogg tells the students about the Skrull threat, and Carol Danvers watches on from afar before jokingly suggesting that he could be a Skrull. She and the kids talk a bit about the Supreme Intelligence, and Carol tells the kids how thankful she is that the Supreme Intelligence gave her what she needs to fight back.

You can see the deleted scene in the clip below.

This scene, for the most part, is just a bunch of exposition to set up some of the bigger plot points: the Skrull threat, the Supreme Intelligence, and Carol’s supposed origins of her powers. Of course, we get all this information later in the narrative, so it makes sense that this part was cut for time.

For the home release of Captain Marvel, io9 says there will be a total of six deleted scenes altogether. Of the six, aside from “Starforce Recruits,” a scene titled “Who Do You Admire Above All” may reveal more telling information that we didn’t get in the movie.

According to the scene synopsis, it will show Yong-Rogg communicating with the Supreme Intelligence. And with that, it seems like we’ll finally see who’s the person he admires most. Seeing as we don’t know much about Yon-Rogg’s background, the form the Intelligence takes may not be someone we immediately recognize. Even if it ends up being someone who we don’t know, there’s potential to explore that character in the sequel.

The home release will also include a gag reel — which Marvel usually puts a snippet of it online before it’s out on home release, so hopefully that will come soon. Outside of that, the home release will come with a bunch of featurettes, and a few digital behind-the-scenes exclusives as well.

Captain Marvel is available for digital download on May 28 and will be on Blu-ray June 11.
