Pop Culture Passport: History and pop culture collide in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

facebooktwitterreddit

Philadelphia is one of America’s most historic cities, but between Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell lies a whole world for pop culture fans.

Throughout it’s history, Philadelphia has been the place to go for history lessons and famous foods (cheesesteaks anyone?). There’s so much to the historic city that you couldn’t possibly do it all in one weekend.

Now, we’re opening the doors of pop culture at the city of brotherly love and showing you were to dine, drink, sleep, and have some fun in the city.

Where to stay: The Kimpton Hotel Monaco

The Kimpton Hotel Monaco is one of the most beautiful hotels in the city. It features guest rooms with sweeping views of the city outside your window. The hotel has a swanky rooftop lounge for sunset views of Philadelphia. Within a five minute walk there are famous attractions like The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House.

Where to grab a drink: Philadelphia Distillery

If you’re looking to wind down and grab a drink head to the Philadelphia Distillery. This is the first craft distillery not only in Philadelphia, but in Pennsylvania since prohibition. The distillery offers visitors tastes of craft spirits, tours of the distillery and delicious plates of food. We would highly recommend getting one of the craft cocktails and the antipasta plate for the best experience.

Where to eat: The Famous 4th Street Delicatessen

When most people think of food in Philadelphia they think of cheesesteaks. But the real foodies in the city know that The Famous 4th Street Delicatessen is the place to be. Each of the sandwiches here are massive and can easily serve two people. If you’re really in a cheesesteak mood they have those too. Do not forget to get dessert here. The cake slices are just as big as their sandwiches!

How to have some fun: Franklin Institute’s Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes exhibit

Super hero fans have even more reason to visit Philadelphia this summer. Marvel is taking over the Franklin Institute and hosting Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes now until September 2, 2019. The exhibit looks at film costumes and props, Marvel artifacts including a super rare Marvel Comics #1 and cool photo opportunities with Marvel heroes like Spiderman and Black Panther.
