3 key things we learned from the Batwoman synopsis

There’s a new superhero heading to The CW and her name is Kate Kane, also known as Batwoman. In the new synopsis and trailer we see the start of an origin story.

When it comes to DC Comics and their superheroes, we all know the story of Batman and Bruce Wayne. Whether it is on TV, in the movies, or of course the comics, Batman is one of the most recognizable superheroes. But what about someone like Kate Kane’s Batwoman?

In our first look at the new CW series, it’s time to say goodbye to Batman and hello to our new superhero, Batwoman. And what a hello it is.

While the synopsis shared by CBR.com gives the facts of what is happening in Gotham and who Kate Kane is, it is really the trailer that is letting us sink our teeth into the action and drama surrounding this new DC TV hero. So what did we learn from these two first looks at the new Batwoman?

Batman is missing

It turns out that Bruce Wayne/Batman is missing. Based on both the synopsis and trailer, there is not much information available as to what happened to him. This means that there is a void in Gotham, and the bad guys have been able to take advantage of that. In fact, it apparently got so bad that even the police force has been overrun. With no one there to curb the violence, the gangs and villains have run amok, wreaking havoc all over town.

Even with a security group known as the Crows, run by Kate’s father, there to try to help Gotham, it doesn’t seem to be enough. With the Alice in Wonderland gang targeting the Crows and kidnapping their best officer, who also happens to be Kate’s ex-girlfriend, it is time for someone to step up and give Gotham what it needs: a hero.

Kate Kane is not going to let a man get credit for her actions

The greatest thing I saw in the trailer was when Kate made it clear that no man is going to earn the credit for what she does. When people assume that it is Batman back to save the day, she lets Luke Fox, the Wayne Enterprises employee helping her to save the day as Batwoman, know that, “they think I’m him. I’m not about to let a man take credit for a woman’s work.” (If ever there was a moment to scream YES! out loud, this was it for me.)

Perhaps that is what makes her so amazing as the new Dark Knight in town. The fact that she has no problem stepping up and letting Gotham see her. She wants people to know it is a woman in the Batsuit, and it is a woman who is saving the day.

Kate Kane/Batwoman is a fierce hero with skills

We all know that Batman is one of the greatest superheroes of the comic world. But after watching this trailer and reading the series synopsis, it looks like he has some stiff competition from his cousin. Whether she is going in as Kate or Batwoman, this is a fierce, independent woman, who knows how to fight and survive.

Even as she is seen going up against the woman who appears to be the leader of the Alice in Wonderland gang, Kate never backs down and she does not surrender. She has the ability to look danger in the eye and not cower back in fear.

Honestly, even the brief fight scenes we saw are proof that Batwoman is a force to be reckoned with and I can’t wait. While there are clearly glimpses to a rough past, including the loss of her family (except her father of course), and problems at military school, Kate is not broken, but rather stronger than ever and ready to fight not only for her loved ones, but also for her home.

Related Story. 8 villains we want to see in the Batwoman series (and 4 we don’t). light

I have never been so excited for a superhero series as I am for The CW’s Batwoman. Not only do we finally get a truly LGBT+ superhero, but we get one who is fierce, funny, and not afraid to do what needs to be done. From the synopsis to the trailer, all I could think was, “who needs Batman anyway?,” and I’m okay with that.
