This Avengers: Endgame “plot hole” seriously stumped the Far From Home cast
Tom Holland responded to Spider-Man: Far From Home’s supposed plot hole first seen in Avengers: Endgame. Based on his reaction, he’s just as confused as everyone else.
During Thursday’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast gathered to discuss their new Marvel film that drops on July 2. They also opened up about Avengers: Endgame and a possible plot hole that many people noticed in both the film and the Far From Home trailer.
As brought up by host Jimmy Kimmel, he wanted to make sure he understood exactly where Far From Home begins. After asking if the movie picks up right after Endgame, Tom Holland confirmed, “That is correct.”
Then, Kimmel proposed a question that many fans have also been wondering about in relation to the five-year time jump in Endgame. As Kimmel asked, “Why then are you all still in high school, is the question? Were there overdue library books?”
It’s a valid question and one that seriously stumped Holland. He declared with a very confused look on his face, “Why… why are we still in high school?”
The late-night host asked Cobie Smulders directly about it too, in which she replied, “I don’t want to pull that thread. I don’t know.” Jacob Batalon hilariously added, “It might be one of the biggest plot holes of all time.”
At the end of Endgame, Peter Parker (Holland) was seen reuniting with his best friend, Ned (Batalon), at their New York City school. This moment led to fans wondering why would they still be in school when five years have passed.
Endgame directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, chatted with Entertainment Weekly in early May (before Far From Home‘s spoiler-filled trailer dropped) about the snap and who was affected by it before they were brought back thanks to Iron Man himself — may he rest in peace.
Joe Russo said regarding Peter and Ned’s reunion, “So… Ned disappeared as well. That’s the two of them seeing each other for the first time after having disappeared.” He also said, “There could be kids who are now much older than them and no longer in high school. But Ned and he both disappeared and are returning in that moment.”
Russo also made it clear that just because Thanos eliminated 50 percent of the population with his snap, “that doesn’t mean that everyone that they went to high school with didn’t disappear.”
Basically, those who disappeared in the Snap and have returned are still the same age they were prior to turning to dust. Seeing as MJ (Zendaya) is seen in the trailer going on the school trip to Europe with Peter and Ned, it’s probably safe to say she also disappeared.
There are still so many questions, and here’s hoping Far From Home will answer at least some of them. What do you hope will be cleared up in the new Spider-Man? Let us know your thoughts.
