Johnny Depp has not been officially confirmed for Fantastic Beasts 3

Fantastic Beasts 3 has an official release date and all of the cast have been signed on for the next installment. All except Johnny Depp.
Wizarding World fans finally have an official release date for Fantastic Beasts 3. The next film in the franchise is due to arrive at the end of 2021 and all the cast are expected to return. However, it is still not clear if Johnny Depp is returning as he has supposedly not been officially confirmed.
This is one of those situations where you need to stay open-minded as it comes via a source close to Johnny Depp that cannot be verified. First reported by The Blast, it is reported that Depp has not been approached by the film studio about Fantastic Beasts 3.

Depp does have a longstanding contract which spans over the entire 5 movie franchise, however, there is an option within each contract that is handled by the studio when it comes to each individual film, something all of the cast has, that has not been approached yet.
Again, please stay openminded about what this might mean. It could very well mean nothing, the film studio may have just not had time to sit down with the actor. However, it’s no secret that Depp has been accused of abuse by Amber Heard, accusations that have been ongoing for some time now and have continually gone back and forth between the pair.

Due to this, Depp’s involvement in the Fantastic Beasts franchise has come under question. Calls for him to be removed from the franchise have been made, but equally, support to not fire him has also been made.
A decision on whether to keep Depp on could still be pending because of the ongoing case, which could explain why he has not been officially confirmed for the franchise yet.
There is always the possibility this news is false and the source is in fact incorrect. Depp could have been officially confirmed but not made it publically known.
We’ll keep a really close eye on any updates regarding Depp’s casting. Once filming begins, we will know more, for now though, keep an open mind on the situation.
