Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series continues this year with not only The Unkindest Tide, but an anniversary edition of Rosemary and Rue.

Fans of the October Daye series, rejoice: Toby is on a boat. Well, she will be on a boat, that is, come the release of The Unkindest Tide, book 13 in the series from Seanan McGuire. How do we know that she’s on a boat?

Well, the cover tells us so.

We’ve got the full reveal right below, and suffice it to say, everything from Toby’s expression to the title alone tells us that we’re going to be in for another rough ride after last year’s Night and Silence.

Not only is it a boat, it’s technically a ship. As the synopsis reveals, this book will focus on the relationship between the Luidaeg and the selkies, which makes quite a bit of sense considering the events of Night and Silence. (No, no spoilers here; you’ll have to read it and see.)

The title, as always, comes from Shakespeare; the reference appears to be from Two Gentlemen of Verona, although there it’s used as wordplay as well, between tied/tide. After all, the books have a great sense of humor in between all of the emotional pain.

Also, pay close attention to the knife in Toby’s hand. That looks like it could be the iron knife that belonged to Acacia once upon a time, judging by the way the hilt looks almost wooden. For Toby to have that at hand means that things will get dire.

The Unkindest Tide won’t arrive until Sept. 3, but the wait for more Toby won’t be long after that. As previously announced, the first novel, Rosemary and Rue, is getting republished in hardcover for the first time to mark the series’ 10th anniversary.

We have that cover as well:

It’s the same concept as the original, mass-market paperback cover, but redone in a brighter color palette, with the rosebush and blood now much more visible. It’s also much easier to compare Toby as she looks here, at the start of the series, to how she looks come book 13, after a lot of adventures and changes to her self as well as the world around her.

Why isn’t the wait too long? Well, this edition of Rosemary and Rue has a current release date of Oct. 1 (fitting for October Daye), and it comes with, as the cover indicates, another new novella. While we don’t know just yet if the rest of the series will get republished in hardcover, this is an excellent start and a fitting way to mark 10 years of a series that has only grown bigger as it keeps going.
