You have the right to remain fierce! RuPaul’s Drag Race meets Cops on this week’s episode, and the queens have to read the house down and rock a mask like they robbed the place!
Did you miss me? I am back, relaxed, tanned, and ready to talk about more RuPaul’s Drag Race, and oh what an episode we have to discuss tonight! For once, it’s not about the drama or any shade, it’s about the challenges and the runway, all of which were pretty on point!
Let’s get right to it with one of the most anticipated mini challenges of the season: the reading challenge! The library is open, henny!
Now, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: just because you’re funny, doesn’t mean you know how to read someone. It’s not about cracking out overdone jokes or being mean, it’s about being witty and smart and playing on someone’s shortcomings, or even on your own faults, to craft the perfect shady rapport. That’s why some queens were better than others, even if they’re not known for their comedy chops.
Vanjie, for example, is a riot, but she’s just inherently funny. Unfortunately, she’s not good at crafting actual jokes, so she bombed in this challenge. Silky, too, didn’t really come up with clever jokes, but really just a bunch of riddles about the girls — and her read for Plastique was lowkey (but highkey) racist, since she spoke to her in Japanese… and she’s from Vietnam. Nina wasn’t so bad, but the best part of her bit was her having to explain the jokes to Ru.
Probably the most surprising queen in this season’s reading challenge was Brooke Lynn! She’s not known for being a comedy queen, but she had read after read that were funny and thought out, but not too rigid or try-hard and it got her the win! Even Plastique surprised me — that read about Nina’s linebacker shoulders was a riot! Yvie and Akeria weren’t bad, but definitely didn’t stand out.
