In a new interview with British Vogue, Richard Madden is getting honest and candid. From body issues to being a Bond Boy, the actor has some interesting thoughts.

British Vogue is declaring Richard Madden is one of the hottest men in film, and we have a hard time disagreeing. But, what makes the actor really stand out is his ability to seem surprised by this notion.

While he may be flattered by the appreciation, it is apparently something he doesn’t truly understand. However, it does lead him to a topic that is just as important for men as it is for women, unrealistic standards when it comes to body image.

According to an interview with him in British Vogue, during his work on The Bodyguard, Madden has had at least one nude scene in which audiences were able to see his naked back. According to the actor, “We’re projecting a very unrealistic body image.” And we don’t blame him for feeling this way, as many people look to actors and actresses to find their ideal bodies and pick at any imperfections, whether real or imagined.

Madden made it clear that he is against the continued perpetuation of the perfect body and yet he admits that he and his friends know they are helping to feed into the unrealistic standards. The actor said that there will be days when he and his friends are preparing for scenes that show off their bodies, and it means not really eating, not indulging in any kind of carbs, and of course, working out more than once in a day. And even knowing they are perpetuating the standards, it seems like something that is hard to say no to.

He even talked about roles where people have pinched at fat on his body, and told him to lose weight and other things we typically associate with actresses.

“It doesn’t just happen to women, it happens to men all the time as well,” he said in the interview.

Beyond talking about body issues and unrealistic standards, Richard Madden also talked about being in a James Bond movie, and his interest in potentially taking on the role of not Bond, but rather being a Bond Boy. He said that if the role was interesting and well written, he would be interested in potentially exploring the dynamic of being a female James Bond’s “Bond Boy.”

In The Bodyguard, British Vogue mentions he plays the younger man to Keeley Hawes’ character, so it is not like he is unfamiliar with that kind of dynamic. And perhaps that is what would make him the perfect Bond Boy. He already knows what it is like to be second fiddle to a powerful woman, and he does it with grace, charm, and a confidence that makes it clear that he is in no way intimidated.
