Fiona Shaw recently sat down to take part in an interview to answer questions about her time in Harry Potter, Killing Eve, and more.

We all know Fiona Shaw as Petunia Dursley in Harry Potter. Shaw appeared as the Aunt to The Boy Who Lived from the very beginning of the Wizarding World franchise and quite honestly, she nailed the role.

Of course, Shaw is known for much more than playing the role of Petunia Dursley, she has appeared both on and off the stage in various different roles, with her most recent being the BBC series Killing Eve.

More from Harry Potter

Shaw recently sat down with the AV/TV Club for an interview, where she discussed her time in both the Wizarding World and her time after.

When asked questions about the Wizarding World, they mainly focused on how people react to her, knowing she played Petunia Dursley, and the answer may come as a surprise to you:

"When people recognize you as Petunia, how do they respond? She’s a character people feel strongly about.Well, I don’t know. People don’t exactly recoil when they see me.I remember an astonishing, lateral fact: [After the films were released] my father would notice sometimes that cars were going slowly past his gate, and children would be stopping their parents saying “Harry Potter’s grandfather lives in there.”"

Another surprising fact Shaw revealed during the interview was how different it was for her and her fellow Dursley co-stars when filming Harry Potter. As the interviewer put it so well, it was like a mini-movie within a movie:

"What was it like filming those movies? The Dursley scenes were kept separate from the Hogwarts scenes, so they’re almost like movies-within-movies.You’re right. Sometimes we would do a scene in the morning, and there would be a big scene in the school in the afternoon and you’d see a thousand children arriving and a thousand parents and a thousand minders—that’s 3,000 people for lunch. And we the Dursleys would have had a little lunch, over ourselves in a tiny corner. We tended to be filmed at the beginning of the shoot, and we tended to be absolutely isolated."

It’s an eye-opening interview with plenty of tidbits for Harry Potter fans to take away, along with Killing Eve tidbits as well. You can check out the full interview with the AV/TV Club here.
