All the best moments from the Avengers: Endgame press conference

The Avengers: Endgame press conference is just one of many forthcoming events sure to test the actors’ and filmmakers’ spoiler-silencing superpowers.

Avengers: Endgame will mark a major milestone in Marvel Cinematic Universe history. After over a decade of films all leading up to something big, it’s finally time for fans to learn the conclusion to the story they’ve been following all this time.

The closer we get to the film’s premiere, the more we’re going to be seeing and hearing from the film’s cast and filmmakers. A recent press conference got a lot of us even more excited about probably watching our favorite characters die onscreen than we were before.

Here are highlights from the press conference, including which character is making their grand return to the franchise and who almost dropped major Endgame spoilers!

Cap vs. Iron Man: Round 2

After nervously dancing around a question, Chris Evans made a comment about the Avengers being like a real-life family. Robert Downey Jr. fired back, using recent real-life events as a counterpoint.

Downey called Evans out for not showing up to Paul Rudd’s birthday party the night before, to which Evans begrudgingly defended: “I didn’t make it. It was a long day yesterday. Sorry, Paul.”

Thankfully, the scuffle ended with the Downey-Evans equivalent of a hug, so everything’s fine. No more civil wars forthcoming.

Nebula’s “daddy issues”

Nebula is one of the newer characters to be acquainted with the Avengers, but based on comments from actress Karen Gillan who plays the character in the films, she might play a bigger role in this story’s ending than previously thought.

“It’s maybe safe to say she suffers from some daddy issues because her dad is Thanos, so who wouldn’t?” She said. “I’m excited for her to face the source of this abuse.”

Whether or not this implies there’s going to be a major father-daughter showdown wasn’t clear. Gillan stopped talking to avoid giving away major plot points.

Swearing in a new hero

Brie Larson shot her Endgame scenes before filming Captain Marvel, giving the actress the perfect opportunity to allow her character to discover her place among the Avengers in real time.

“This film will always be personally dear to me because it is my first time playing Captain Marvel,” she said. “I had to stumble and try to figure out who this character was with no script for this, and no script for Captain Marvel either.”

From what we’ve seen of the character so far, there’s no doubt Carol will fit right in. This press conference proved Brie, at least, already does.

A satisfactory ending

Though they didn’t give anything major away, the film’s directors — none other than the Russo brothers — did speak to the impact they hope Endgame‘s ending will have on Marvel fans.

Director Joe Russo noted: “With Endgame, we get to finish off one of the grandest experiments in movie history. What we’re hoping for is that people feel satisfied with the conclusion.”

Trust us, Russo. We’re hoping for the same thing. Give us that sweet, sweet satisfaction, no matter how much it hurts.

Who almost gave away the ending?

Several Endgame actors narrowly avoided spoiler-heavy slip-ups while on stage, relying on Favreau and other higher-ups to cut them off before they said too much.

Chris Evans almost revealed details about Cap’s fate (though most of us have already guessed how it’s going to go down). Karen Gillan had to make a smooth recovery after talking her way into spoiler territory while discussing Nebula’s Endgame end goal.

We’re sure the cast and everyone involved are definitely going to feel relieved once the film finally makes it to theaters. Clearly, giving vague answers and dancing around details isn’t easy. Thankfully, we’re only weeks away now. If they could make it through this, they can make it through all the junkets and other on-camera appearances soon to follow.

What surprises do you hope to see during the three-hour film? Who do you think will survive — and who won’t make it out alive? Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters on April 26.
