The Mandalorian spoilers: Everything we think we know

Although The Mandalorian won’t arrive until later this year for Star Wars fans to enjoy, a new massive set of spoilers has hit the internet.

Attention may be more focused on Star Wars: Episode IX, despite the dearth of information about the movie, but The Mandalorian has caught interest, especially since it’s supposed to be one of the big series for Disney+. It hasn’t been kept under wraps quite as much as IX, though it’s been kept mostly quiet save for the occasional social media post.

Now, however, fans over at r/StarWarsLeaks have plenty of information to feast on from u/JediPaxis, and we’re about to break down some of the details and do some speculation.

First up, JediPaxis has an entire section on armor. Not only will Gina Carano’s character, who is apparently quite important, wear some armor (not much, but some), but the costume of our main character, played by Pedro Pascal, will also change over the series. Additionally, we’ll see “cobbled together stormtrooper parts” for some people; JediPaxis specifies “background.”

Here’s what that tells us. First, there’s likely some growth or progression for the Mandalorian to afford better armor, and that might link to his overall arc in the story of the first season. Second, with the details about used stormtrooper parts, this is meant to be a more lived-in part of the universe, which matches up with the series’ initial description. It’s a small detail, but telling.

Second, Jawas are reportedly in the series, because “Tatooine is a main location of the show.” Jawas always deserve more love, and Tatooine makes sense as a location. Canonically, according to Wookieepedia, things get a little hairy on Tatooine after Jabba the Hutt dies. Our protagonist, who has been described as a “gunslinger,” could certainly make some money working for different interests on the planet. We bring up Jawas because said Jawas also have Boba Fett’s armor at one point in time, although the canon then puts it in the hands of one Cobb Vanth.

Finally, JediPaxis wrote, “No main OT characters (e.g., Han, Luke, Leia, etc.) in the show’s first season.” (The emphasis is theirs.) As they confirmed some of the bounty hunters of the original trilogy are still present in this series, that’s an important distinction to make. Additionally, there’s still room for a second season to expand the universe further, and Disney+ reportedly already has that season 2 in the works. As for the first season, even if they don’t appear, expect some allusions to the old favorites. The New Republic also gets name-checked in the series description, after all, and Tatooine is significant to the entire Star Wars mythos.

There’s a lot to digest here, Star Wars fans, and as JediPaxis notes, Star Wars Celebration will also feature The Mandalorian heavily with a big panel.
