Brienne of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth is best known for doing her duty, and as the trailer shows Brienne and Podrick on the front lines of Winterfell’s army, it seems that she’ll continue to honor her promise to Catelyn and protect the Stark sisters until the end. Brienne will likely have a major role in the fight against the army of the dead, but whether she’ll survive that battle is questionable.

If anyone can walk away from a fight with the White Walkers, it’s Brienne. She’s already defeated the Hound in battle, after all. Her size and skill with a sword make her a formidable opponent, and hopefully that’s enough to keep her alive after the White Walkers come.

Given her oaths to Catelyn and Sansa, however, it’s possible that Brienne won’t make it to see the end of season 8. As we mention earlier, Sansa’s training with a sword is minimal, making her an easy target for the attacking army. Even Arya could find herself outmatched against the Night King’s forces. If Brienne were to fall to the army of the dead, it’ll probably be because she’s protecting Sansa or Arya.

We just hope that the eighth season will give us a conversation or two between Tormund and Brienne before anything too wild happens. It’ll be interesting to see Brienne reunited with Jaime, particularly now that he’s abiding by his oath to “fight for the living.” The Hound is also likely to have an awkward reunion with Brienne, so we’re in for quite a few interesting moments between Brienne and the other characters during season 8.
