12 SFF book releases you need to make April an epic adventure
With all of the exciting science-fiction and fantasy book releases hitting shelves this month, April is sure to be an epic adventure for readers.
Spring is officially here, and that means it’s time to get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and maybe fight a few dragons or pilot a few spaceships here and there—right? At least, that’s what SFF fans will be pretending to do, considering all of the exciting book releases that are hitting shelves in April. Even if April showers do happen, fantasy lovers will have plenty to read while holed up indoors.
April is an exciting month for SFF readers, with several popular series continuing or even coming to an end. Mark Lawrence’s Book of the Ancestor and Claudia Gray’s Constellation series are both concluding this month, along with Scott Reintgen’s The Nyxia Triad. Meanwhile, John Gwynne will continue his Of Blood and Bone series with his new release, A Time of Blood.
There are also a number of SFF debuts hitting shelves in April, starting with the highly anticipated Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan. Claire Eliza Bartlett’s We Rule the Night and Christine Lynn Herman’s The Devouring Gray also introduce readers to new worlds and authors, as well as Swati Teerdhala’s The Tiger at Midnight and Joan He’s Descendant of the Crane. Finally, Caitlin Starling will debut her novel, The Luminous Dead, equal parts science fiction and psychological thriller.
Of course, there are a few established SFF authors returning with new works to share. Cassandra Clare is releasing her first Shadowhunter novel categorized as adult fantasy, The Red Scrolls of Magic. Ashok K. Banker is beginning his new Burnt Empire Saga, an Indian-inspired fantasy story that looks as promising as his previous works.
It’s safe to say that April is going to be an exciting month for SFF fans—and that’s based on book releases alone. Add in all the television series returning and movies coming out, and there will barely be time to enjoy the warmer weather. Although, I suppose readers could go outside to read all the amazing new releases…
