Chadwick Boseman and Black Panther cast talk sequel at SAG Awards

Most of the cast of Black Panther is on board for a sequel and ready to continue the stories of the characters they brought to the screen.

Black Panther just keeps rolling in those nominations and wins this awards season, and we couldn’t be happier. While we love seeing such an influential comic book movie getting awards because this movie definitely has an important social impact, we also love seeing the adorable cast get together again to accept the awards.

Last night, Black Panther received the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. This gave fans the opportunity to see many of the cast members together again. Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, Sterling K. Brown, and Andy Serkis were all on stage to accept the award and looking snazzy in their red-carpet-ready outfits.

After the awards, the cast got together backstage where they talked about the sequel to Black Panther. Of course, fans will know that a sequel is in the works with director Ryan Coogler at the helm, but we are all anxiously awaiting more details.

Chadwick Boseman even paved the way for discussions about the sequel at the event when he mentioned it in his acceptance speech. “You can’t have a Black Panther without a ‘2’,” he remarked.

One question that many fans wanted answered was whether or not the cast from the original would be returning. During the Q&A, the cast was asked if any of them didn’t want to do a sequel, and the answer — of course — was a resounding “no.”

According to Michael B. Jordan, everyone is excited to continue moving forward with the franchise saying, “It was a tremendous accomplishment… I think if there was an opportunity, I think we’d all be excited.”

He also spoke about how the cast would want the chance to continue building on the characters they’ve brought to life and to continue that legacy.

As big fans of the cast and of Black Panther, we can’t wait to see what the sequel has in store. How certain cast members would return to the story remains to be seen since Killmonger, for example, died at the end of the film.

Along with answering questions about the sequel, the cast also took some time to talk about the incredible amount of work that went into creating this film. Boseman had a lot of praise for all of the crew and those who created the film, saying:

"I don’t think that people truly understand the amount of detail, the amount of mastery that went into the hair and makeup, wardrobe, set design… It’s throughout the diaspora, it’s all weaved together…To create an entire world from the most beautiful things of a continent and put all that together across all those lines in the production, and have people believe that this is one country."

We love that Boseman is reminding people of how much goes into making a film and how important it is to recognize the hard work of those involved beyond just the actors. We will be crossing our fingers that Black Panther takes home all the awards at the Oscars!
