Marvel’s celebrities are excited about Black Panther’s Oscar nominations
Black Panther’s Best Picture nomination is groundbreaking, and many Marvel actors are celebrating the news on social media.
It’s an exciting day for Black Panther fans. Today, we learned the news that the film has received seven nominations for the 91st Academy Awards, and these nominations are breaking new ground.
Black Panther has already won and been nominated for other awards during this season including the nomination for Best Picture for the Golden Globes, which it did not win. Many have been speculating if the movie would get a nomination for Best Picture for the Oscars as it seemed like a deserving choice.
The news is also exciting because Black Panther is the very first superhero movie to ever be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. It’s exciting that this, first, is a movie that features multiple black leads and, two, has become such an important cultural phenomenon.
Along with Best Picture, Black Panther also received nominations for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.
Fans of the film are understandably very excited about this news, and we are definitely excited, too. Whether or not the movie gets the Oscar, it’s important that it was nominated and shows that superhero movies can be culturally and socially significant.
Celebrities are also excited about these nominations. Many celebrities involved in the film as well as other actors in the MCU have taken to social media to express their excitement and congratulate Black Panther on these nominations.
Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia, posted a throwback video of cast members seeing footage from the film for the first time at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017. And both Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Forest Whitaker (Zuri) shared their excitement, too.
Plus, more than just the movie’s actors celebrated the nominations. Hannah Beachler also celebrated a historic win through the movie: becoming the first African-American person to be nominated for production design at the Oscars.
While the actors involved in Black Panther clearly have a lot to celebrate, other Marvel actors were there to support and cheer on these nominations, too. It’s always heartwarming to see how the MCU actors prop up and promote each other’s work.
Both Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo posted tweets to congratulate the film on its groundbreaking nominations.
Even the team behind Stan Lee’s social media accounts sent out some congratulations to all the Marvel films that earned nominations. We know if Stan Lee were still here, he’d be amazed to see his work nominated for such a high honor.
We can’t wait to see more Marvel celebrities share their thoughts about these nominations, especially Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, and Michael B. Jordan. And we know we are definitely celebrating along with everyone else.
