Spider-Man: Far from Home: 4 things you missed in the trailers
Amid all the international action, Spider-Man: Far From Home dropped plenty of little details in its two trailers, and some could be huge.
Sure, there are a couple superhero movies to get through before Spider-Man: Far From Home, but neither Captain Marvel nor Avengers: Endgame were so kind as to drop not one, but two trailers on the same day.
Yes, there’s the big U.S. trailer that you’ve probably seen already, but an international trailer also made its way onto the internet this morning, satisfying Spider-fans around the world (or super fans who just want to get as much of Tom Holland as Peter Parker as they can).
Check out both below:
Now that you’ve watched both, here’s what you missed.
Where did Peter get his suitcase?
Although Peter’s suitcase for his European trip appears in both trailers, only the American trailer has a quick shot of the initials on the case: BEP. No wonder it’s so old-fashioned looking, because it’s almost certainly Ben Parker’s. (What the E might stand for, we’re not entirely sure.)
Uncle Ben hasn’t showed up quite as much in the Tom Holland Spider-Man continuity, save a few references. While this is a small reference, we’d hazard a guess that the suitcase’s provenance will come up in dialogue from Aunt May as Peter’s packing to go on the trip.
“You’re all alone”
Nice to see you again, Happy! We’re not the only ones who’re happy to see him, if Aunt May’s reaction is any indication.
However, on a more serious note, both trailers feature him saying “You’re all alone,” presumably to Peter. There’s also a curious lack of Tony Stark as well as the Iron Spider suit, although Peter clearly gets a few new suits throughout the film. Is it S.H.I.E.L.D. tech?
Not even Doctor Strange, who might be interested to find out how these water, fire, and earth creatures are appearing, gets a reference. Magic, or what at least seems to be magic, is usually his deal.
Mysterio’s mysteriously appearing helmet
Towards the end of both trailers, we get to see Jake Gyllenhaal in action as Mysterio, and though he first appears without his helmet on, you can spot it when he’s flying around and attacking the creature. How does it appear? Is it technology similar to Tony’s nanotech, as previously seen in Avengers: Infinity War?
We really can’t see him toting it around only to plonk it on once he’s made his grandiose speeches. That would just be silly, and we can’t really see Mysterio wanting to be thought of as silly.
Hello there, Agent
Nick Fury gets to have actual lines, but we do see his fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent briefly from the back. No, it’s not Phil Coulson; it’s almost certainly Agent Maria Hill. Yes, we knew she’d be in the film, but it’s still nice to see her back in action after her unfortunate dusting at the snap of Thanos. We’d recognize that short ponytail anywhere!
Spider-Man: Far From Home is in theaters July 5.
