There is an interesting Fantastic Beasts theory suggesting that Leta Lestrange has gone and done exactly what Lily Potter did in Harry Potter.
Fair warning for everybody who has not yet seen Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. This post will contain some spoilers about the Wizarding World movie as we discuss Leta Lestrange.
Although, if you happen to know the Harry Potter story fairly well, you can probably guess what has happened to Leta when comparing her to Lily Potter.

Anyway, as we all know. Leta Lestrange didn’t exactly last as long as what we thought. Killed off in the final moments of the movie. I for one was a bit taken aback that she was gone almost as quickly as she arrived.
After all the speculation, and after all the hype of what her character might bring to the Fantastic Beasts franchise. It was gone, just like that. Or is it?
I’ve already speculated at how this is the Wizarding World at the end of the day. So death doesn’t exactly mean the end of everything. After all, when Dumbledore died in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he was back again in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Ok, yes, it was all in Harry’s head, but he was still back all the same.

The point being that Leta could return in some form or another. Both director David Yates and producer David Heyman have discussed how Leta is dead, but dodged the question over if she was “gone” for good.
So it’s a good bet that Leta will be back at some point in the future. And this is entirely possible with a Fantastic Beasts theory going around that Leta Lestrange has done for the Scamander brothers, exactly what Lily Potter did for Harry when she was killed by Voldemort.

Leta placed a protective spell on the Scamander brothers when she died
So, the idea is, when Leta died in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, she placed a powerful protection spell on both Newt and Theseus Scamander. The exact same protective spell that Lily Potter placed on Harry when she died.
In the same way Lily did with Harry when killed by Lord Voldemort. Leta sacrificed her life, and died at the hand of Grindelwald, in order for both Newt and Theseus to get away and survive. When she was killed by Grindelwald she clearly did not fight back, an obvious sign that she was sacrificing herself for those she loved.
When Lily sacrificed herself to Voldemort, it placed a powerful protection spell around Harry which seen him not come to harm many times over. The only way Voldemort was able to bypass it was by the use of Harry’s blood in the potion he used to bring him back to full strength. A sign of how powerful the protective charm was.
And that very same charm could be on Newt and Theseus if this theory proves to be true. If it is, this could be the way Leta comes back into the franchise. Something I think a lot of fans would be eager to see happen.
There is of course issues with the idea. For example, in the case of Lily and Harry, this was a mother and son bond. It is not known if the protective spell only works between a mother and child, but certainly possible. So, it could easily not come to be.
We will just have to wait and see. J.K. Rowling has explained answers are given in Fantastic Beasts 3. Once filming gets underway, we should start to learn who has been cast. If Zoë Kravitz is cast in the next installment of the franchise, or any of the future installments in the franchise, then maybe this is why.
Because in her final moments she gave her life for those she loved. Just like Lily Potter did for Harry.
