Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Director and Producer discuss Leta’s fate

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Director David Yates and Producer David Heyman have opened up about the fate of Leta Lestrange.

If you have not seen Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald yet then please do not read this post regarding the fate of Leta Lestrange and what Director David Yates and Producer David Heyman have to say about the matter. Unless you are ok with spoilers. Which, if you are. Read on.

So, Leta did not last very long in the latest Wizarding World movie. For someone with such a huge connection to the Harry Potter movies I honestly thought she would be around for a while. Instead, she was killed off at the end of the movie, much to the surprise of me and many other Wizarding World fans.

This has prompted questions such as, is Leta really dead? Will she return in a future installment of Fantastic Beasts? If she does return, will she be alive or as a ghost? Etc.

Both Director David Yates and Producer David Heyman have weighed in on the debate. Giving fans an indication of what Leta’s fate is. While discussing Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald on The Empire Film Podcast the two were asked about Leta and they had the following to say:

"What I do think is that when you die, you die. I think death is real. I think it’s important in the books and in the films that though Harry can have a vision of Dumbledore and there may be a Nearly Headless Nick in Hogwarts that, ultimately, dead is dead. I think it makes death more painful. That’s not to say that a spirit form has happened in the process where people can’t return with a message, but I completely agree. To keep the emotional stakes of the world present, if someone gets killed, they have to stay dead."

So by the looks of things Leta is officially dead. However, you shouldn’t rule out the possibility of her appearing in any future installments of Fantastic Beasts is some form or another.

We will know for certain if Zoë Kravitz will be back to reprise her role once the casting announcements are made. Something which should be announced in the first half of 2019 when filming gets underway for Fantastic Beasts 3.
