The romance

Move over, The Christmas Prince. there’s only one romance we want to see this festive season, and that’s between Han Solo and Leia Organa.

There’s no denying that Christmas is a time to indulge in the cheesiest romances, but anyone who’s ever watched Star Wars will know that romance doesn’t come much cheesier than Han and Leia.

Remember how she rescues him from the carbonite and he, rendered temporarily blind, asks who was helping him? “Someone who loves you,” she replies.

We’re here for it, obviously, but whoa, that’s some cheese.

Of course, that’s not to say that we don’t like it. We ship them hard. And we’ve just said that the holidays are a time for cheesy romance; Hallmark is working double time and Netflix is churning out the cheese faster than the whole of France (we assume).

We’re just saying: don’t count Star Wars out if you’re looking for wholesome romance this holiday season, of any kind really. It’s not even just Han and Leia. There’s the slightly-odd-but-we’re-saying-nothing romance between Lando and L3-37 in Solo. There’s Rose and Finn in The Last Jedi. There’s also a healthy dose of Finn and Poe, if you look hard enough and really wish for it.

As Tor’s Natalie Zutter says, making the argument that the romance in the series has become more steady in recent years, “…we watch Finn grab Rey’s hand as they run to safety. We see Poe embrace BB-8 and Finn with equal fervor. We choke back tears as Han and Leia awkwardly, emotionally reunite.”

All’s fair in love and Star Wars.

Plus, if you can’t get enough of all that love, there’s plenty more to go around in fanfiction.
