Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been announced as one of the movies up for consideration of an Oscar in the Best Original Score category. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their shortlist for the category, the first time in 40 years.
The latest Wizarding World movie was one of fifthteen movies shortlisted for the award. Which included the likes of Avengers: Infinity War, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Crazy Rich Asians, and Ready Player One.

Shortlists are rarely revealed for the Best Original Score category so this came as a surprise. We won’t hear anything now until the nominations for the Oscars are announced. This won’t be until around February 2019.
Fingers crossed Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwadl will still be a contender. And maybe go on in winning the Oscar itself.
Even if the latest Fantastic Beasts movie doesn’t go on to win the award. There is a high chance that the winner will be connected to the Wizarding World somehow.

Both Harry Potter actors, Brendan Gleeson and Harry Melling appeared in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which has been shortlisted. Jason Isaacs is in The Death of Stalin. Julie Walters in Mary Poppins Returns. And the composer of Isle of Dogs was the behind the Deathly Hallows musical scores.
So there is a good chance the Wizarding World will, in a way, win an Oscar.
