Jeffrey Dean Morgan returning for Supernatural’s 300th episode
Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise his role as John Winchester for Supernatural’s milestone episode, airing February 2018.
To all you Supernatural fans out there, it’s time — once again — to bust out the Kleenex and comfort food, because there’s a Winchester family reunion on the horizon that is sure to make us feel all the feels.
That’s right, John Winchester is coming back at last.
While details are sparse, Entertainment Weekly confirms Jeffrey Dean Morgan, most recently known for his role as Negan on The Walking Dead, will reprise his role as Sam and Dean’s grizzled demon-hunting father in the show’s 300th episode, “Lebanon,” which will air on February 7.
Supernatural producer and writer Andrew Dabb said to EW, “We’re incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character… and a few other surprise guest stars.”
As for who those other “surprise guest stars” are, we have no idea. But that little teasing hint is totally overshadowed by the long-awaited return of John Winchester.
Fans have been waiting for 11 years to discover the fate of the Sam and Dean’s father, who started the family business of hunting down supernatural monsters after his wife, Mary, was killed by the demon Azazel.
Of course, Supernatural loyalists had plenty to say about his return.
John’s disappearance on a hunt is what prompted the reunion of Sam and Dean in the very first season. And his — admittedly somewhat unorthodox — father/son relationship with his demon hunting sons has made him a fan favorite, despite the fact that he only appeared on screen in 12 episodes.
The last time fans saw Winchester Sr. was in season 2. In the opening episode, “My Time of Dying,” he gave up his soul to Azazel in exchange for Dean’s life, only to show up again in the finale, “All Hell Breaks Loose: Part 2,” where he escapes from hell to help his sons kill the demon who murdered his wife, finally getting his revenge before vanishing in white light.
And now he’s coming back. What Morgan’s appearance in “Lebanon” means for his character and for the show, we don’t know yet, but this is a reunion we don’t want to miss. Let the February 7 countdown begin.
