Did you know that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was almost called something else entirely? J.K. Rowling had three other book titles before she decided on the Goblet of Fire.

I suppose it shouldn’t be that surprising that J.K. Rowling had a few working book titles when she was creating the Wizarding World series. It’s just weird to think that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire might have been called something else.

Rowling had three potential book titles for the fourth book, and seeing the other potential title that she was considering. She definitely selected the correct title.

More from Harry Potter

Up for consideration was Harry Potter and the Death Eaters, the Three Champions, and the Fire Goblet. This is according to JK Rowling: A Bibliography, written by author Philip W. Errington.

Now, the first two options aren’t too bad actually. Death Eaters and Three Champions would have been acceptable. Nowhere near as good as Goblet of Fire but acceptable. Death Eaters would have been a bit too dark, however, especially for a children’s book, and the Three Champions would have made the plot a bit obvious from the get-go. It would have made it clear that at some point we were getting three champions. Fire Goblet was definitely a dud title though. Especially when you put it up against Goblet of Fire.
