See how the world of Wakanda came to the big screen in new Black Panther featurette

The actors and creators of Black Panther came together once again to create a featurette showing how much work went into creating Wakanda. Will the Oscars catch on to Black Panther’s campaign?

Bringing a fictional world from the page to screen is no easy task. And it’s an even bigger task when it comes to accuracy and paying homage to real-life locations. When it comes to Black Panther, there’s no better demonstration of this coming together absolutely phenomenally, and Marvel just released a video to show how it all came together.

In a new clip called “Welcome to Wakanda”, the cast and crew of Black Panther reunite to share why not only the movie was important, but why its location was important as well.

Director Ryan Coogler introduces this video, taking a firm stance on what Wakanda meant for him, saying:

"Wakanda represents for us: Africa. [It’s] like a fantasy of what could be if African people had control of their own resources. And the idea was that it was a place more technologically advanced than anybody could imagine."

Throughout the video, stars Chadwick Boseman and Angela Bassett make an appearance. Even as an actor, Boseman tells how creating Wakanda was also part of his role. Not only does the setting have to look real, but the actors have to make the world look real, too. Without a doubt, Boseman, Bassett and others acted the part in creating the culture of Wakanda. And now, it’s hard to ever imagine a world without the “Wakanda forever” salute.

For Angela Bassett, the movie was all about tapping into ancient Africa, which she recalls is about “the kings and queens, the languages and conversations and songs that we’ve forgotten.”

At the end of the video, you’ll notice there’s one last card that follows the title of the film. It reads “For your consideration in all categories including Best Picture.” So, this informative feature was directed not only to the fans but mainly the Academy, the voters behind the Oscars.

Black Panther — with the help of Disney and Marvel — has been driving a serious plan to get recognition from the Oscars. Already, the movie has garnered a Best Picture nomination from the Golden Globes. And with the Oscars typically taking cues from the Golden Globes, it just might mean that Black Panther gets the recognition it deserves.

The feature, of course, shows off that a lot of hard work went into making the movie. It’s not just your everyday popcorn flick; it’s a lot more than that. And hopefully, by showing how invested the actors and creators were in making a superhero movie so much more than just that, the Academy will take the hint and give Black Panther some love.
