Crazy Ex-Girlfriend review: Rebecca finally tells Naomi what she can do with her opinion
Rebecca and Naomi Bunch have had quite the relationship, and now, it seems as if Rebecca is finally standing up to her mother on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
Every season on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, we’ve seen Rebecca fight with her mother and the dream that Naomi had for her. Whether it was the men Rebecca chose or her career, she always seemed to be struggling between what Naomi wanted and what she wanted for herself. Not much has changed in the beginning of the episode but, with Rebecca’s new telling the truth kick, she is forced to tell Naomi everything.
That includes going to jail, being the rooftop killer, and, more importantly, the truth about her job. Granted, it takes Rebecca a lot of time to say all of these things. It’s so bad that she won’t even stay with Naomi while in New York. Instead, she’s staying with Valencia and Beth to avoid her mother. But she can’t avoid the truth for too long, eventually telling Naomi that she runs the pretzel shop.
With her new “tell the truth” motto though, Naomi wants her to lie to all her friends so she isn’t embarrassed by Rebecca. Thinking, by the end of the episode, that Naomi finally understands her daughter and how she’s changing for the better, Rebecca blindly trusts her mother. By the end, she shows Rebecca that she’s still the same old mother she knew so well.
While Rebecca is dealing with her mother, Nathaniel and Paula are helping the girls at the prison in Rebecca’s absence. They need legal advice, and when Nathaniel finds out what Paula is doing, he decides to be a good person and help her. Throughout the episode, he makes it clear that he’s on a new kick just like Rebecca, wanting to help people and be a better person.
Paula questions whether or not it is for Rebecca — and even Rebecca does it herself at the end of the episode. He clearly enjoys helping people and wants to keep doing so all on his own. Nathaniel may be making himself better, but Rebecca is falling into her old ways.
Josh needs someplace to stay so he ends up staying at Rebecca’s home when she’s gone. She comes home to find a mural of fall leaves that he had installed because she loves the changing seasons of the east coast, and the two share a moment that confuses her to the point where she even brings it up to Paula.
Will Rebecca end up back where she started the whole series, falling in love with Josh Chan once more? Or will Greg Serrano finally make an appearance and stop her from repeating the past? Hopefully someone sees what she is doing and puts an end to it but, if the end of the episode is any indication, we might have to watch the Josh Chan saga all over again.
