Tessa Thompson shares her dream director for a Valkyrie solo movie

Tessa Thompson reveals who she would want to direct a possible Valkyrie standalone film if it ever happened, and we sure hope that it does.

With the news of the Disney streaming service coming soon and all the talk about potential miniseries spinoffs for some our favorite MCU heroes, it’s an exciting time to speculate about which of our favorites could be expounded on in the universe. Yes, they could grab more screen time on Disney+, but what about on the big screen?

One character who many fans would love to learn more about is Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok. In the movie, we see Valkyrie leave her drunk, depressed state to help Thor and the others save the Asgardians from Hela. The characters, played perfectly by Tessa Thompson, resonated with fans because of her humor and reliability.

While there is no solo film in the works as far as anyone has heard from Marvel, it sounds like Tessa Thompson has already thought about who she would want to direct the film regardless.

If a Valkyrie film did happen, Thompson says she wants Steven Caple Jr., who directed Creed II, to take up the movie.

She revealed this information, as CBR points out, during a screening of Creed II with a Q&A in London. When Caple was asked if he’d be interested in directing a Marvel movie, Thompson took the chance to say she would want Caple to direct her in a Valkyrie film.

In a way, this would make a lot of sense, as Ryan Coogler — who directed the first Creed movie — went on to great success as the Marvel director for Black Panther.

Since the chances are low that we’ll get another Thor movie anytime soon (or at all), we would love to see Valkyrie get her own movie. The film could focus on her adventures after the events of Thor: Ragnarok and also feature cameos from other beloved characters like Loki or even Korg. It would also be great to see more about her past and backstory, and we’d love to see her bisexuality explicitly shown as it has been hinted at and discussed outside of the film.
