A Very She & Him Christmas – She & Him
If you’re looking for a vintage-sounding album that’s less country than Kacey Musgraves’ A Very Kacey Christmas, She & Him’s 2011 Christmas album A Very She & Him Christmas might be the perfect choice for you. The indie duo comprised of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward decided to take their folksy stylings down the holiday road, and it sounds exactly how you imagine it would.
The duo covered a variety of songs, from Elvis’ “Blue Christmas” to “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and “Silver Bells”. Zooey’s dreamy voice floats across every song, giving it that perfect old-school vibe that fits right in with holiday albums by Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. They also covered two songs by The Beach Boys, which are some covers that don’t appear on a lot of Christmas albums, so that’s a nice change! They put their indie spin on “Little Saint Nick” and “Christmas Day”, and it works perfectly, especially with Zooey accompanying herself on the ukulele.
The album went to #1 on the Billboard Independent Albums and Folk Albums charts, with many critics calling it beautiful and calming, which is what you want in a Christmas album. Zooey’s voice makes for the perfect laid-back Christmas soundtrack. Just picture yourself sitting on the floor, wrapping your family’s presents with her calming vocals serenading you with “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” in the background.
Since Christmas is the season of giving, proceeds from every album were donated to 826 National, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids and teens improve their creating writing skills, which helps over 30,000 students every year across the United States. That makes the album sound so much sweeter!
