Charmed: Is there a demon or evil spirit inside of Macy?

A few big reveals in the most recent episode of Charmed involved oldest sister, Macy, potentially having “darkness” inside of her. Is the sister half demon?

The character of Macy and the reason behind her mother abandoning her when she was a baby has been a potent mystery on the show since the pilot episode. However, I don’t think anyone predicted that Macy might potentially have a dark side.

As this show is a reboot, Macy is actually based on both Prue and Paige from the original Charmed series. Macy is a combination of the two original characters, with the new show merging their powers and background to create her. Macy has Prue’s power of telekinesis and is the oldest like Prue, but did not grow up with her sisters or mother, which was originally Paige’s story.

In the original series, Paige discovers that she is, in fact, half witch and half whitelighter, after their mother had a romance with a whitelighter, which is a powerful angelic spirit. This meant that Paige crafted some interesting powers, a mixture of what she inherited from her parents, and had her own side storyline involving acting as a whitelighter and helping others with her angelic intuition.

As Macy has a different father to that of Mel or Maggie, it was widely theorized that she would be given Paige’s previous storyline of being half whitelighter. However, the reveal from last week’s episode that Macy has something dark inside of her could indicate that the reboot is going another way with Macy’s story. Whitelighters are a force for good, protecting and guiding witches to fight evil, so if Macy was half whitelighter, the “darkness” inside of her wouldn’t be possible.

Therefore, the show could be flipping the narrative, making Macy half demon instead. The end of last week’s episode showed a mysterious demon retrieving some of Macy’s blood from the lab she works in. Firstly, this could mean that this demon knows Macy is a Charmed one and consequently knows where the sisters live and work. He might want to use her blood to perform some kind of curse or spell over Macy to destroy her.

However, the demon could also be drawn to Macy’s blood because of another reason, for example sensing the evil inside of her, latching onto it and using Macy’s dark blood for power. After all, a half-witch, half-demon might be even more powerful than a regular demon. Maybe this mysterious demon shown at the end of the episode will set out to corrupt Macy and tempt her onto his side.

Whatever happens, Macy is sure to be facing some traumatic and difficult times ahead, battling with her internal dilemma. When Mel and Maggie enter a spell to envision a point in the past in the last episode, they overhear their mother sprouting concerns for Macy, who was not yet born, saying that she thinks there is something wrong with her. This might explain why their mother abandoned Macy when she was a baby, binding her powers so as to protect her from corruption. The girls’ mother had the power of prophecy, so she could have easily foreseen Macy’s dark future aiding the rise of evil and felt she could stop it by ensuring Macy grew up believing she was a human.

The show might be taking a sinister turn if Macy discovers more and turns to the other side, potentially even fighting her own sisters. Having “darkness” inside of her is a very cryptic revelation and it could mean that she is destined to fight on the side of evil, something she might be able to stray from, or that she has another personality inside of her, likely a demon, trying to escape and take over her body. The answer will undoubtedly be a plot-twisting moment.
