Michelle Obama credits glam squad for her beauty

The former First Lady’s trademark honesty is one reason we admire Michelle Obama so much. So we’re not surprised to learn that Obama’s memoir, Becoming, gives credit to her glam squad for her confident appearance.

The former First Lady calls her glam squad her “trifecta.” The group includes a fashion stylist Meredith Koop, hairstylist Johnny Wright, and makeup artist Carl Ray.

From speeches to state dinners to visits overseas, Ray has been Obama’s go-to makeup artist. The level of trust is impressive.

“There’s times when she won’t even look in the mirror when I’m done, that’s how much she trusts me,” shared Ray.

Skincare secrets of the former First Lady

When it comes to maintaining her radiant skin, Obama is particularly fond of products sold by the former First Lady’s facialist Jennifer Brodeur, according to Ray. The Peoni line is one of Obama’s special favorites.

Ray has other recommendations as well. In contrast to the Peoni line (usually priced at $500), Obama’s makeup artist recommends Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream at $30 and Cetaphil at $8.99 for cleansing skin.

Refreshingly, Ray isn’t married to one single makeup brand. Instead, he recommends options including Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, and Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Lipsticks.

Obama’s makeup artist also offered tips based on his experience working with the former First Lady. He believes in the “power of following your heart.” Ray admitted that prior to having the opportunity to audition, he “really put it out there in my mind [and] the universe that I wanted to do her makeup.” It worked!
