Supernatural: With Jack mortally ill, what will be on his bucket list?

Jack, previously a Nephilim with extraordinary powers, has had a hard time this season living as a human. However, it might be nearing the end for Jack.

Everyone’s favorite Nephilim and adopted Winchester brother might be reaching the end of his story on Supernatural, as this week’s episode of the show concluded with a scene of Jack collapsing, clearly weakened. This incident is surely going to cause Sam, Dean and Castiel to go into a panicked frenzy as they attempt to find answers to so many questions: Why is Jack ill? Is he going to die? And most importantly, Can the Winchesters save him?

Jack joined the show in season 13. As Lucifer’s son, Jack initially had angelic powers, being half-human and half-archangel. However, Lucifer drained Jack of his grace during the season 13 finale and Jack has been striving to navigate through life as a human ever since. This proved very difficult as Jack was riddled with feelings of helplessness, and guilt for all the people who he could have saved if he still had his powers.

However, draining Jack of his power could have been more consequential than the boys originally thought because Jack is gravely ill. Whilst he could have previously been able to use his powers to heal himself, as a human Jack is vulnerable and in direct threat of dying before his grace potentially regenerates itself. It’s more than likely that the next episode of Supernatural will involve Sam and Dean searching for any way possible to keep Jack alive.

However, the preview for the next episode suggests that Jack has something else in mind. Watch the preview for the next episode, “Unhuman Nature”, below:

Sam, Dean and Castiel are clearly going to be worried and concerned for Jack, pulling all of their efforts to try and prevent him from deteriorating — which includes calling in the witch Rowena to try and heal him with a spell. However, Jack seems to be preparing to leave the bunker. Jack, in having limited time left to live, wants to go to Vegas to enjoy his last few moments and Dean joins him on the road. Whilst Jack’s choice to succumb to his inevitable death and his desire to experience as much as he can before he goes, might initially make Sam and Castiel feel protective over the boy, hopefully they will carry out Jack’s wishes and help him live his last few days fully

We can see in the preview that Jack already knows that he wants to go to Las Vegas, potentially to drink and gamble, and there is also a clip of Jack driving the Impala. This is shocking because Dean rarely lets anyone else drive his baby, including his own brother, so this just shows that whatever is causing Jack to grow weaker is serious and Dean understands that. Dean can’t really refuse a dying man’s last wishes, even if it is risking the safety of his beloved Impala.

After driving with Dean, Jack might have several other items on his bucket list. The boy hasn’t really experienced a normal life, so his last desires could be just about anything. Maybe Jack just wants to experience going on a first date, or playing soccer. Whatever it is, Dean is sure to be the best man to lead the way.
