Now that the midterm elections are over, politicians and voters are looking to 2020. Who are some Democrats that might run for president in two years?

With the midterm elections finally over and the results decided (in most states, anyway), most people are relaxing a bit. For voters, that’s a fair plan of action. For politicians, though, things are just starting to heat up again. With the 2018 elections in the rearview mirror, the 2020 general election and its race for the President of the United States is looming ahead, ever larger and more urgent.

If you were someone who was interested in making a bid for the Oval Office, then you almost certainly have to start making your moves by now. You might visit states that have been decisive battlegrounds in previous elections, such as Iowa, Michigan, or Colorado. Perhaps you’re considering your words very carefully, trying to figure out if Democratic Party members and voters have the same vision in mind. It’s a complicated series of moves that, if nothing else, require some very careful planning.

At this point, it’s also tough trying to see who will actually announce a candidacy for the Democratic nominee. The Republican field will almost certainly be dominated by Trump, who had already filed the paperwork necessary for a re-election campaign on Inauguration Day in 2017.

Democrats, meanwhile, will likely have to contend with a crowded field. So many are energized by their opposition to Trump and a rising movement of young, progressive voters that we will probably see a great variety of candidates.

People who are serious, and those who aren’t

The following list will outline some of the people you are most probably going to see in debates, political ads, and campaign appearances in the next two years. There are some notable exceptions. People who have flat-out said that they will not run haven’t been considered for this list.

Neither will you see celebrities who have joked about it, shown little real initiative, or stated that running for office “would kill me.” Seriously, everyone needs to stop asking Oprah if she wants to be the President.

Of course, politics being what it is, surprises are so common that they are hardly surprises anymore. There are plenty of politicians who have said that they spent all their mental energy focusing on the 2018 midterms and are currently playing rather coy.

Meanwhile, predicting presidential races more than a year ahead of time is notoriously tricky business. This list is instead meant to set the stage. Who is likely to pop up in your newsfeeds as the months go on? Who might we want to see win nominations and who will actually secure them?

This list is by no means a definitive ranking, but chances are good that a majority of these people will be spending a noticeable amount of time traveling around the nation, talking to potential voters, and announcing their campaigns in short order. Here are 20 of those political figures you could be considering in a matter of months.
