What we know about Aquaman’s mid-credits and post-credit scenes

Aquaman is setting the stage for future movies thanks to not just a post-credits scene, but also a mid-credits one as well.

For months now we have heard rumors of at least one post-credits scene at the end of Aquaman. And while nothing has truly been confirmed, it seems that at the very least there is a mid-credits scene we need to stick around for.

According to a report from Inverse, people have already begun seeing the finished movie in advance of its Dec. 21 release date. These screenings are specifically for the general public courtesy of Warner Bros., which certainly makes sense as they want to make sure this movie lives up to the hype. And with those early screenings come leaks including news of one of those highly anticipated mid-credits scenes.

While we have been told there is a post-credits scene, it has not yet been confirmed. For the most part, early screenings tend not to include those end credit scenes because the studio usually likes to keep them concealed until the film premieres.

Rerelease News shared that it had a source who had seen the movie in previews, and confirmed the presence of the mid-credits scene. They did not share what the scene contained, although they did say that the movie was well-received and deserves a “thumbs up.”

Even without knowing exactly what the scenes in the credits will feature, ComicBook.com seems to believe that we will get a clip that highlights Black Manta. They have reported the previous rumors about the scene with information that there is a, “post credits scene featuring Randall Park’s Dr. Stephen Shin and Yahya Abdul Mateen II’s Black Manta and setting up Black Manta for a larger villainous role in potential Aquaman sequels.”

While we know Black Manta will be a part of Aquaman, he is not the film’s primary villain. Instead, the main antagonist of the movie is King Orm, played by Patrick Wilson.

With us not knowing how much we will see of Black Manta in Aquaman, it makes sense if the character does take center stage in either the mid-credits scene or the end-credits scene. If there is a larger future for Aquaman in the DCEU, then having a villain introduced in the first solo movie is a great way to continue the hero’s story.

As with any comic book hero, just because they defeat one bad guy, that does not mean their work is over. And the mid-credits and end-credits scene are the perfect way to set that up for the audience. Not only does it give us another look at a character like Black Manta, but it is also gives us something to anticipate in the future.

What we do know about the character as portrayed by Mateen comes from the actor himself, who explained that in Aquaman we first see Black Manta as he is riding a major high. Unfortunately for him then comes Aquaman and it all comes crashing down around him, leading to him being at the very bottom. Mateen explained that, “And then, from then on, you know, ‘It’s Aquaman’s fault.'”

Considering this information, we can totally see an end or mid-credits scene featuring Black Manta. He is a villain who has a lot of story to tell and with him not being the focus of Aquaman’s solo movie, setting the stage for him to emerge as a bigger threat in the future seems not only possible, but also probable.

For now, we will have to wait until either critics or the studio confirm the inclusion of these end-credit scenes. Either that or we will get the chance to see for ourselves when the movie premieres on Dec. 21.
