Supernatural preview: Boys go up against an insect-like monster

Sam and Dean team up to fight something new in this week’s episode titled “Optimism”. Their old friends Charlie and Jack help out.

The preview for this week’s episode of Supernatural looks weird and wonderful. Sam and Dean are challenged with a monster of the week that we have never seen before. Will the Winchesters know how to defeat it?

Whilst dealing with a smaller case, the boys bring Charlie and her hunting and computer expertise along with them. Charlie is a fan-favorite character and, although this version of Charlie is from an alternate reality and therefore may not have the same connection to the boys as the Charlie that we all know and love, there is sure to be some sweet moments in the episode. Also, there’s likely to be some comedy as well because Charlie has always had some hilarious scenes and one-liners. Her character is really cheeky and witty so make sure not to take this week’s episode too seriously. There is no doubt that whatever threat beholds the boys, Charlie will help them get out of it with her extensive brain power. I think we’re all hoping that this episode marks Charlie making more regular appearances in the show. The character has not been in an episode since last season, so it’s about time.

It’s not only Charlie helping the boys out though. Jack can also be seen in the preview on the hunt with Sam and Dean. Since having his grace drained and becoming human, Jack has not had the easiest time on the show and is clearly struggling to adjust to life without any powers. Jack has had to learn how to be a hunter and help people without his angelic grace, and it’s definitely taking its toll on the lad. Jack must be battling internal feelings of self-doubt, helplessness and inadequacy. On top of that, the last time we saw Jack he was coughing up blood. Will he find the courage to open up to Sam and Dean about the strange things that are happening to him, or continue to keep it a secret?

The preview has also revealed that the Winchesters might be dealing with a Musca, a monster hybrid which is a mixture between a man and a fly. Supernatural has dealt with a range of different types of monsters, and even cursed insects as well, but have never come up against a Musca before. Hopefully, Sam, Dean, Charlie and Jack will be able to research and find out what its weaknesses are and what can kill it. It might get messy though because Dean is seen fighting the strange creature in the preview and Charlie gets covered in some disgusting goo. It’s sure to be an interesting episode.
